Job Description

About the role:

As a Senior Maintenance Coordinator, you will report to the Senior Maintenance Coordinator and work a split shift to support maintenance activities across day and night shifts. You will serve as an on-shift technical leader within the Site Engineering Maintenance organization, supporting the safe, compliant, and reliable operation of good manufacturing practice (GMP) manufacturing, process equipment, utility systems, and facility infrastructure. This role coordinates shift maintenance activities, supports work assignment and prioritization, manages shift escalations, and provides hands-on technical guidance to technicians to maintain plant readiness, minimize operational disruptions, and ensure effective communication and continuity across maintenance crews.

How you will contribute:

  • Provide on-shift technical leadership for maintenance execution, coordinating work assignments, prioritizing activities, and aligning crew resources with operational needs.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact during assigned shifts for equipment issues, utility events, production support requirements, and maintenance-related escalations.
  • Communicate equipment status, maintenance activities, operational impacts, and anticipated resolution timelines to Manufacturing and cross-functional teams to support safe and reliable operations.
  • Coordinate responses to alarms, abnormal conditions, urgent work, and non-routine equipment or utility events, ensuring appropriate triage, escalation, communication, and documentation.
  • Support technicians with troubleshooting, repairs, system restoration, work order completion, and resolution of technical issues affecting manufacturing operations and plant readiness.
  • Execute preventive, corrective, and urgent maintenance activities within assigned qualifications and training to support shift priorities and maintain equipment reliability.
  • Coordinate effective shift handoffs by communicating open issues, safety concerns, equipment status, ongoing maintenance activities, and priorities between outgoing and incoming crews.
  • Promote safe work practices, current good manufacturing practice (cGMP) compliance, accurate documentation, and adherence to approved procedures during all maintenance activities.
  • Coach and mentor maintenance technicians, provide technical guidance, identify recurring equipment or execution issues, and communicate staffing needs, resource constraints, and improvement opportunities to maintenance leadership.
  • Support inspection and audit readiness, deviations, investigations, corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs), and change controls by ensuring maintenance activities and documentation are complete, accurate, timely, and inspection-ready.

What you bring to Takeda:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with at least 8 years of relevant experience, or technical certification, associate degree, military technical training, or similar technical education with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate shift activities, prioritize competing work demands, manage multiple maintenance priorities, and make sound decisions in a dynamic operating environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of maintenance and reliability principles, including work planning, prioritization, scheduling, execution readiness, and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated competency in maintaining, operating, and troubleshooting process equipment and critical utility systems, including water for injection (WFI), reverse osmosis (RO), autoclaves, clean utilities, chromatography systems, ultrafiltration skids, and other GMP manufacturing support systems, as applicable.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, with a strong understanding of cGMP requirements, maintenance documentation, audit readiness, and the ability to interpret technical documents such as piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment drawings, and manuals.
  • Proficiency in preventive and corrective maintenance execution and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), with the ability to use digital tools and adapt to emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence-enabled processes.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and collaboration skills, including the ability to lead through influence, mentor technicians, explain technical information to diverse audiences, coordinate shift handoffs, and escalate issues appropriately. Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role, including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), gowning for pharmaceutical manufacturing areas, lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds, standing for extended periods, climbing ladders, working from platforms, bending or stooping, handling approved site chemicals, and traveling or working across designated site or regional facilities as required.

Important Considerations:

At Takeda, our patients rely on us to deliver quality products. As a result, we must follow strict rules in our manufacturing facilities to ensure we are not endangering the quality of the product. In this role, you may:

  • Work in a controlled environment requiring special gowning and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body. This may include additional hearing protection for loud areas.
  • Need to remove all make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish and/or artificial fingernails while in the manufacturing environment.
  • Work in a cold, wet environment.
  • Work multiple shifts, including weekends, or be asked to work supplemental hours, as necessary.
  • Work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and Celite that may require respiratory protection.

This is an on-site role required to support GMP manufacturing operations, plant readiness, and shift coverage needs. The position requires working a split shift to support maintenance activities across day and night shifts.
