Summary

Imagine what you could do here! The people here at Apple don’t just create products — they build the kind of wonder that’s revolutionized entire industries. It’s the diversity of those people and their ideas that inspires the innovation that runs through everything we do, from amazing technology to industry-leading environmental efforts. At Apple, inclusion is a shared responsibility, and we work together to foster a culture where everyone belongs and is inspired to do their best work.

Apple Retail is seeking a Portfolio Manager to own and drive a portion of our capital project portfolio. This role sits at the intersection of strategy, analysis, and execution, requiring someone who can deeply understand individual projects while simultaneously stepping back to assess portfolio-level health, risk, and opportunity. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who thrives in ambiguity, builds strong cross-functional relationships, and knows how to keep complex work moving forward.

Description

The Portfolio Manager will be responsible for the ongoing management and oversight of a defined segment of Apple Retail’s project portfolio. You’ll be the person Product, Business, Engineering and Design leaders turn to when a new project needs a home, a timeline shifts, or capacity gets tight — someone who can cut through ambiguity, ask the hard questions that get to the root of a problem, and mediate across teams with genuinely different (and often equally valid) needs, all without needing formal authority to do it. You'll pair that influence with rigor: keeping portfolio data accurate across core planning systems, spotting the trends that matter, and delivering the insights and reporting that shape what leadership decides next. It's a role for someone who leads with relationships first, letting the data back them up.

Success in this role requires genuine curiosity about how and why projects are progressing or stalling and an eagerness for driving process improvements that help us run our projects efficiently. This person will need to adapt to shifting priorities and negotiate competing needs across stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Develop a deep, working understanding of the project portfolio, including scope, budget, schedule, risks, and dependencies
Build trusted relationships with cross-functional teams as a go-to portfolio advisor
Guide teams through evolving planning processes and tools, keeping systems and stakeholders aligned as the ecosystem evolves
Work through ambiguity and help problem-solve complex cases of new project intake and material project scope & timing change requests
Drive negotiations across Retail & partner teams to mediate challenges around capacity, sequencing and prioritization
Maintain accurate, synchronized project data across core planning systems; run audits to catch and resolve data issues before they affect decision-making
Analyze portfolio trends and translate findings into actionable insights for leadership; produce and deliver trustworthy leadership-level portfolio insights
Contribute to continuous improvement of our planning and portfolio management processes
Support ad hoc strategic initiatives and analysis

Minimum Qualifications

4 years of experience in project management, portfolio management, program management, or a related analytical/operational role
Experience building cross-functional relationships and influencing project outcomes without formal authority
Experience navigating ambiguous, high-stakes situations involving competing priorities, scope changes, and shifting timelines
Experience synthesizing data into clear, actionable insights
Experience communicating insights, trends, and forecasts to senior leadership
Proficiency with productivity and reporting tools (e.g., Excel/Numbers, Keynote, project tracking systems)

Preferred Qualifications

Certification such as PMP or Six Sigma
Background in retail or e-commerce
Background in capital planning, budgeting, and financial analysis practices
Comfortable adapting to shifting priorities and negotiating competing needs across stakeholders
Skilled at mediating across teams with different, and often equally valid, perspectives
