Join a team building AI-powered compliance, security, and productivity solutions at Microsoft scale. We leverage AI/ML, distributed systems, and cloud technologies to deliver intelligent experiences that help customers understand, protect, and govern their data. As a Software Engineer II, you will own features end-to-end, from design and implementation to deployment, monitoring, and live-site support. You will build scalable backend services in C#/.NET, work with AI-driven technologies and evaluation frameworks, and help drive engineering excellence through operational rigor, data-driven decision making, and modern AI-assisted development practices.

Responsibilities
- Owns Features End-to-End: Designs, develops, tests, deploys, and operates production-grade features and services. Drives delivery from requirements through implementation, validation, monitoring, and post-release support.
- Builds Scalable Distributed Systems: Develops highly available, secure, and performant backend services using C#/.NET and Azure. Solves challenges related to scale, reliability, latency, resiliency, and distributed architectures.
- Drives Operational Excellence: Participates in on-call rotations, investigates production incidents, performs root cause analysis, and implements improvements that enhance service reliability, availability, and customer experience.
- Leverages AI and ML Technologies: Applies AI/ML technologies to product experiences and engineering workflows. Builds and evaluates AI-powered solutions, defines quality metrics and evals, and uses AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering velocity and effectiveness.
- Instruments, Measures, and Optimizes: Creates dashboards, telemetry, and monitoring solutions to track system health, customer impact, performance, and business outcomes. Uses data-driven insights to identify opportunities and drive continuous improvements.
- Collaborates and Executes in a Fast-Paced Environment: Partners with engineering, product, and data science teams in an agile development model. Contributes to technical design reviews, code reviews, and engineering best practices while maintaining a strong bias for execution and customer impact.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Rust, or Python.
- OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Rust, or Python.
- OR equivalent experience.
- Experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems and cloud services using C#, .NET, Azure, or similar technologies.
- Experience with AI/ML technologies, LLM-based applications, evaluation frameworks, experimentation, or AI-assisted software development tools.
- Experience with telemetry, monitoring, dashboards, live-site operations, and participation in on-call rotations for production services.

Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $85,400 - $168,100 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $111,100 - $183,700 per year.
