Job Description & Summary

PwC Indonesia’s Energy Transition Advisory team works as a community of solvers to help clients unlock the business, economic, and societal value of Indonesia's energy transition. Our practice is working on complex problems in Indonesia’s energy transition, across the public and private sectors. We draw on our global network for expertise as required and localise it through our Indonesian experts to address country nuances to solve Indonesia’s challenges in planning and implementing the energy transition. We seek to do this in a way that maximises business performance, positive environmental and social impact, while driving value creation for our clients and the economy as a whole.

A sample of the kind of problems you’ll be solving: 

  • Designing an energy transition plan for a major integrated energy player to attract investment for its business diversification strategy 

  • Identifying incentive mechanisms and policy support for the Indonesian power sector to accelerate the development of renewable energy  

  • Developing a roadmap for a large-scale energy storage system at national level and defining recommendations for the enabling financial and regulatory interventions  

  • Assessing commercial and financial viability of transitioning captive power fleet to gas/renewable energy including applicability of transition credits and impact of government greenhouse gas emission quotas  

  • Defining and quantifying financial and fiscal impacts of accelerated retirement of coal-fired power plants 

  • Assessing economic impact (GDP, green jobs, tax) of changes to regulatory frameworks and proposed incentives to accelerate energy transition 

  • Conducting feasibility studies and financial models for renewable energy, green hydrogen, energy efficiency, alternative fuels and plans to address domestic and export demand 

  • Assessing the EV and battery market size and related value proposition, including the design of an EV charging services and network 

  • Exploring business model and structure for international and local companies to unlock broader benefits of energy transition 

  • Assessing business models on various renewable energy and new technologies in Indonesia, and other regions (Asia, Africa, and Europe) 

  • Conducting assessments of the decarbonisation initiatives and energy saving potentials at a holding level and across the subsidiaries 

  • Designing market entry study for a solar energy player including market sizing, identification of regulation requirements and competitive landscape mapping 

  • Developing feasibility study assessment comparing business as usual and transition to renewable energy including solar, hydro and geothermal 

Candidate Profile:

Energy Transition, Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy, Electrification of Industries, Energy Storage, Electric Mobility, Batteries, Alternative Fuels (hydrogen, methanol, SAF), GHG, Mining (critical minerals), Oil & Gas 

Functional expertise 

Business and governance frameworks, financial modelling, strategic frameworks, business models, economic regulation of utilities, market design and structures, energy pricing/tariff setting, carbon pricing, sustainable financing, economic & social impact assessment and safeguards, green jobs & up/re-skilling, GHG emissions measurement & monitoring  

Education  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Accounting, Economics, Finance  

  • Master’s degree or higher in any of these, and MBA highly valued  

Others  

  • Excellent consulting skills, including report writing, problem solving, communication and relationship management 

  • Sharp analytical and strategic thinking skills  

  • Strong project management skills  

  • Outstanding presentation and report development skills including diligence and attention to detail 

  • Self-starter, fast learner, strong sense of accountability, able to work independently on delegated tasks and deliver expected quality within deadlines  

  • Able to work collaboratively in cross-functional and cross-organisational teams  

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills  

  • Commercial sense, especially for Manager & above  

  • MS Office literacy (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) essential, specific expertise using GIS tools, energy modelling (HOMER, PLEXOS, Digsilent, etc.), resource platforms on climate and energy (NGFS, RENinja, etc.), financial modelling (commercial template), data analytics (e.g. Power BI and Alteryx), AI and other relevant expertise will be an asset  

  • Proficiency in English and Bahasa Indonesia
