Position Summary:

The Staff System Engineer will support the development and continuous improvement of Mass Spectrometry and Chromatography products, including High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Ion Chromatography (IC) and Gas Chromatograph (GC).

In this role, you will take a lead of systems engineering and combine it with product definition activities to translate customer and application needs into engineering requirements, support system integration, and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle.

You will work closely with Hardware, Software, Mechanical, Fluidics and Manufacturing Engineering teams to develop innovative analytical instruments that deliver outstanding customer value.

Key Responsibilities:

Systems Engineering

  • Capture, analyze and manage system requirements for Mass Spectrometry and Chromatography products.
  • Translate customer workflows, application requirements and market needs into clear engineering requirements and product specifications.
  • Support system architecture definition and allocation of requirements across software, electronics, mechanics, fluidics, optics and consumables.
  • Coordinate system integration, engineering verification and product validation activities.
  • Participate in design reviews and support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for system-level issues.

Product Definition

  • Collaborate with Marketing, Applications and Service teams to understand customer needs and emerging market trends.
  • Contribute to Product Requirement Documents (PRD), engineering specifications and feature prioritization.
  • Evaluate competitive products and identify opportunities for product differentiation.
  • Support new product planning, product enhancement and lifecycle management.
  • Balance customer value, analytical performance, manufacturability, quality and cost during product development.

Cross-functional Leadership

  • Coordinate technical discussions across software, electronics, mechanics, fluidics and applications engineering teams.
  • Facilitate communication between engineering and commercial functions.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI), engineering changes and sustaining engineering activities.
  • Promote systems engineering best practices and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or above in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Instrumentation, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related discipline. Master's degree is preferred.
  • Typically 8+ years of experience in analytical instrument development, systems engineering or product development.
  • Experience with Mass Spectrometry, High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Ion Chromatography (IC) or related analytical instrumentation.
  • Strong understanding of analytical workflows and scientific instrument architecture.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate customer requirements into engineering specifications.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary product development teams.
  • Excellent communication, analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Good written and spoken English.
