The Privileged Access Controls (PAC) team is responsible for Microsoft's privileged access platform, delivering secure, compliant, and scalable just-in-time access solutions for both Microsoft and customers worldwide. Our portfolio includes Microsoft Entra Privileged Identity Management (PIM), Privileged Access Management (PAM), Azure JIT, Lockbox, and Access Monitoring, supporting millions of privileged access requests and protecting critical cloud services through Zero Trust principles. We are investing in the next generation of privileged access capabilities across applications, infrastructure, and authorization systems while driving Microsoft-first security initiatives and broad platform modernization.
As a Group Engineering Manager, you will lead multiple engineering teams, define technical and organizational strategy, develop engineering talent, and partner across Identity, Azure, and Security to deliver highly reliable services that are foundational to Microsoft's security and compliance commitments.

Responsibilities
Lead and develop engineering teams within Access Management and Governance, fostering accountability, collaboration, and growth.
Set technical direction for secure, scalable identity services, driving architecture and engineering decisions that prioritize security, privacy, and resilience.
Drive live-site excellence through robust monitoring, incident response, safe deployments, and continuous improvements to service reliability.
Partner across engineering, product, and security teams to translate customer needs into technical priorities and coordinated delivery plans.
Champion engineering quality and responsible adoption of AI-powered development tools to improve productivity, testing, and maintainability.
Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements
Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or preferred qualifications
Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 15+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
6+ years people management experience leading and developing engineering teams, including managing managers and delivering large-scale cloud services.
Experience building, operating, or securing cloud identity, access management, privileged access, authorization, authentication, or security platforms at scale.
Experience driving cross-organizational technical initiatives involving security, compliance, reliability, and service operations across multiple engineering teams.
Experience with Microsoft Entra, Azure, Zero Trust architectures, or privileged access management solutions.
Experience building authorization systems, access governance, or just-in-time access controls.
Experience defining multi-year technical strategy and influencing senior engineering and product leaders.
Experience developing engineering managers and building high-performing, inclusive organizations.
Software Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $165,600 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.
