Sr. Sourcing Manager, Manufacturing Capital Equipment, CNC Machining

We are looking for an exceptional Sourcing Manager to own the machine tools that will produce the highest cost content in our product.

Precision machining is the established process for our actuator components and gears, and the equipment you select sets cycle time, machine count and cost per part at volume. Multi axis machining centers, turning, grinding, gear cutting and finishing, EDM and metrology, along with the automation and work holding around them. You will commit long lead equipment ahead of production need and work directly with process engineering on capability requirements at tolerances and hardness levels that leave very little margin.

This is a builder role in a zero to one manufacturing environment. There is no incumbent equipment base and no established supplier list. You will build both, and what you specify will still be running when we are producing at a rate no program has reached.

Key job responsibilities
- Machining Equipment Sourcing: Own end-to-end capital equipment sourcing, including supplier identification, market analysis, RFQ/RFP execution, total cost of ownership modeling, and award decisions across multi-axis CNC machining centers, turning centers, grinding, gear cutting and finishing, EDM, deburring and cleaning, metrology, and the automation and work-holding supporting them. Develop and implement sourcing approaches that optimize cost efficiency while advancing technical capabilities. Build machine-rate and cycle-time models that translate equipment selection into cost per part at volume.
- Contract Negotiations: Lead complex negotiations with OEMs, equipment manufacturers, integrators and service providers, structuring commercial agreements covering pricing, payment terms, warranties, acceptance criteria, run-at-rate and capability protocols, SLAs, and long-lead-time components, and managing the full contract lifecycle including amendments, renewals, and dispute resolution.
- Long-Lead Commitment and Schedule Risk: Own the machining equipment commitment calendar against factory move-in and start-of-production dates. Flag items where lead time exceeds available schedule and drive mitigation through slot reservations, phased releases or alternate suppliers.
- Process and Tooling Partnership: Work with Manufacturing and Process Engineering on machine capability requirements, including tolerance, concentricity, surface finish and hardness. Support cutting tool, fixture and work-holding strategy as part of total cost.
- Procurement Frameworks: Develop sourcing frameworks, standard operating procedures, and operating mechanisms that scale with the organization, supporting and mentoring sourcing managers and buyers through technical guidance.
- Supplier Performance Management: Establish and manage supplier performance programs, including scorecards, SLAs, and regular business reviews. Identify and mitigate supply chain risks through dual-sourcing strategies, should-cost models, and contingency planning. Assess supplier capability to build, install and commission at rate, not only to quote.
- Budget Management: Manage capital budgets with cost controls, variance tracking, and change management governance. Support material planning, inventory strategy, and spare parts availability. Drive cost optimization initiatives with demonstrated results.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Align equipment procurement timelines with site milestones and schedules in close partnership with cross-functional teams across the organization. Serve as a procurement subject matter expert in cross-functional planning forums. Influence leadership on strategic direction and investment decisions related to the supply chain.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Finance, or a related technical field
- 6+ years of experience in supply chain management, strategic sourcing, or procurement in manufacturing, industrial automation, or similar technical environment
- Experience managing capital equipment procurement programs and vendor portfolios for complex environments, including equipment, automation, and tooling
- Experience leading contract negotiations with OEMs, equipment manufacturers, or construction contractors for agreements of significant value
- Experience developing sourcing strategies, procurement frameworks, or standard operating procedures
- Experience sourcing machine tools, precision metalworking equipment or related production automation

Preferred Qualifications

- MBA, or Master's degree in supply chain management, operations, engineering, analytics or related field
- Experience in automotive, aerospace, medical device, automation, semiconductors, high-tech, or similar industries
- Direct sourcing experience with machine tool OEMs
- Working knowledge of machining processes and capability, including multi-axis milling, turning, grinding, gear hobbing and grinding, hard turning, and EDM
- Familiarity with machine capability and acceptance testing, including FAT, SAT, Cmk and Cpk studies, ballbar and laser calibration, and run-at-rate
- Understanding of cycle time, machine utilization and cost-per-part modeling, and how equipment selection drives machine count at volume
- Experience with cutting tool, fixture and work-holding sourcing as part of total cost of ownership
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar)
- Six Sigma, Lean, or other continuous improvement certifications
- Experience managing significant capital budgets with demonstrated cost optimization results
- Experience mentoring or guiding cross-functional teams in a technical product development environment
- Ability to influence leadership on strategic sourcing and investment decisions

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
