Manager, Hardware Commodity, Amazon Leo

Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. We are seeking an experienced Hardware Commodity Manager to own and execute hardware supply chain strategies which may include battery, optics, solar, electromechanical, or mechanical sourcing for our Hardware Supply Chain team supporting manufacturing across Amazon Leo's satellite constellation. This role will be responsible for building and scaling our hardware manufacturing suppliers to support the production of thousands of satellites. You will work cross-functionally with production, quality, and engineering to resolve technical tradeoffs, manage vendor relationships, and ensure we deliver reliable hardware at scale. This role combines hands-on engineering problem-solving with strategic supply chain ownership in a fast-moving aerospace environment.


Key job responsibilities
1. Manage and develop a team of system focused Global Commodity Managers (GCMs) to drive accountability and high performance in the procurement of mission-critical aerospace components.
2. Direct your team's sourcing strategies that balance supply chain resilience, cost efficiency, and technical requirements for assigned hardware subsystem commodity areas.
3. Work directly with Technical Program Managers (TPMs) and Engineering leadership to align supplier strategies with program timelines and technical requirements.
4. Ensure your team drives Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) efforts with Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE) to resolve supplier quality issues quickly and prevent recurrence.
5. Build and maintain a resilient supplier base that can respond to engineering's dynamic needs and rapid design changes.
6. Drive supplier engagement to deliver real-time technical solutions, acting as the bridge between engineering requirements and supplier capability.
7. Stay at the forefront of key technology changes and market growth for complex hardware, bringing outside-in insights to inform sourcing decisions.
8. Identify and mitigate supply chain risks for specialized materials and components through proactive capacity planning and alternate source qualification.
9. Provide clear, concise reports to leadership on sourcing status, strategic initiatives, and critical supply chain risks.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Finance, or a related technical field
- Experience in complex problem solving, and working in a tight schedule environment
- 3+ years of team management experience
- 7+ years of supply chain, forecasting, manufacturing, sourcing/procurement, or vendor management experience
- Travel up to 30% of the time
- 5+ years of relevant strategic sourcing and category management in Propulsion, Optics, or Solar sub-systems.
- Experience working cross-functionally with engineering and program management teams on hardware programs

Preferred Qualifications

- Master's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related field
- Knowledge of ERP systems (e.g. SAP, ORACLE, Coupa) in large organizations
- Experience managing supplier relationships in aerospace, satellite, or regulated hardware manufacturing environments
- Experience with DFM, RCCA, and supplier quality processes in a hardware production environment
- Experience with should-cost modeling, total cost of ownership analysis, and competitive bidding strategies
- Track record of managing technology transitions and qualifying new suppliers for complex hardware components

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
