Job Description

Objective:

You will report to the Head Engineering GCC and lead Automation Design within the Global Capability Center in Bengaluru. You will build team capability and deliver consistent automation engineering services for pharmaceutical manufacturing projects, meeting quality, regulatory, safety, cybersecurity, sustainability, and business requirements.

Accountabilities:

• Lead and develop Automation Design teams and Design Leads across the Global Capability Center
• Build workforce plans, capability development plans, succession plans, and talent strategies
• Support recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and retention of engineering talent
• Create a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous learning
• Oversee automation design performance across all projects and programs
• Ensure adequate resource capacity and balanced workload across the team
• Support project delivery from concept, front-end engineering design, and detailed design through construction support, commissioning, qualification, and validation
• Ensure compliance with good manufacturing practice requirements, Takeda standards, environmental health and safety requirements, cybersecurity requirements, and applicable industry regulations
• Align engineering practices with Good Automated Manufacturing Practice 5, International Society of Automation 88, International Society of Automation 95, International Electrotechnical Commission standards, and engineering best practices
• Lead quality assurance, technical reviews, risk management, and lessons learned activities
• Support audits, inspections, quality investigations, and regulatory readiness work
• Set and lead automation design improvement and innovation priorities
• Promote digital engineering, smart manufacturing, automation standardization, artificial intelligence-enabled tools, and data-driven decision making
• Support energy optimization, operational efficiency, and sustainability initiatives through automation solutions
• Drive standardization and reuse of engineering solutions across projects
• Serve as the primary Global Capability Center contact for Automation Design
• Collaborate with Global Design Engineering, project teams, manufacturing sites, Digital Factory teams, operational technology teams, and discipline authorities
• Support automation modernization initiatives that improve manufacturing performance

Education, Behavioural Competencies and Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related discipline
• Master’s degree preferred
• 15 or more years of experience in automation, electrical, instrumentation, and control engineering in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other regulated industries
• Experience across concept, front-end engineering design, detailed design, construction support, commissioning, qualification, and validation
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering organizations and complex project portfolios
• Experience in engineering consulting, engineering procurement and construction management, or owner-side project organizations is preferred
• Strong people leadership, organizational development, and talent management experience
• Experience in change leadership and continuous improvement
• Ability to collaborate across teams and influence stakeholders
• Process automation experience with programmable logic controllers, distributed control systems, supervisory control and data acquisition systems, and batch systems
• Experience with building management systems and environmental monitoring systems
• Knowledge of electrical design, instrumentation engineering, automation architecture, and system integration
• Knowledge of Good Automated Manufacturing Practice 5, International Society of Automation 88, International Society of Automation 95, Code of Federal Regulations Title 21 Part 11, data integrity, and good manufacturing practice requirements
• Knowledge of commissioning, qualification, validation, and lifecycle management principles
• Experience with digital engineering and smart manufacturing technologies
• Willingness to travel internationally and collaborate across time zones
