Summary

At Apple, outstanding ideas have a way of becoming phenomenal products, services, and customer experiences very quickly. Bring your passion, dedication and expertise to your job and there's no telling what you could accomplish. We are seeking a finite element analyst to conduct structural, thermal, and dynamic analysis of sensing technologies. Creating the world’s best products means solving some of the most challenging and unique design problems. Please come join us!

Description

You will utilize your expertise in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to solve engineering problems and discover creative solutions in order to enable robust and reliable sensor technologies. You will perform simulations that will be used to assess performance, design sensitivity, root-cause failure, reliability and much more. As an FEA engineer you will help address engineering challenges with a problem-solving, design-driven mindset to accelerate technology development and deliver world class products. This includes building FEA models, performing model validation and using FEA to provide critical design inputs to ensure performance and reliability goals are met. Simulation is a critical part of the design process and you will be working closely with product design partners, providing critical insights from simulation to ensure designs meet requirements. This position offers a technically challenging and rewarding opportunity to influence design and create real impact on our sensing technology portfolio.

Responsibilities

Generate finite element models/analytical models of sensor architecture
Perform static, dynamic and thermal-mechanical analysis with complex non-linearities
Use FE models to perform parametric & sensitivity analysis linking inputs to critical outputs
Perform model validation in the form of hand calculations, testing and material characterization
Drive failure analysis, root cause efforts, and design mitigations
Brainstorm and propose solutions to problems based on analysis data and provide clear design feedback to the design team based on analysis results
Summarize the analysis results into high-quality reports and effectively communicate the findings to cross-functional partners

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum requirement of a bachelors degree
Experience with Abaqus, ANSYS, COMSOL, or other FEA tools
Strong engineering fundamentals in solid mechanics

Preferred Qualifications

M.S. degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Structural Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
In-depth knowledge of FEA theory, implementation and numerical methods
Experience solving non-linear solid mechanics problems (materials, contact, geometric)
Experience in FEA applied to high volume consumer electronic products and sensor technologies
Experience in additional analysis/simulation areas (CFD, acoustics, fatigue, and biomechanics) and multi-physics simulations
Applied knowledge/experience with material testing & material model calibration
Modeling nonlinear materials such as soft adhesives, elastomers, and polymers
Proficient in Matlab, Python or other scripting language and experience with using AI tools
Knowledge of GD&T fundamentals
Experience in data and statistical analysis (Monte Carlo, DOE, statistical process control)
Team-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact and collaborate with management, team members and external vendors to achieve project goals, and give positively to the engineering community
