Job Description

The job:

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, we enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. As Director, Service Logistics within our Materials & Structural Analysis Division (MSD), you will lead innovation across our global service logistics network while setting the standard for operational excellence. Your work will modernize how service parts move through our systems, improve speed and reliability for customers, and strengthen the performance and resilience of our operations at scale. You will translate strategy into execution, combining data, technology, and people leadership to deliver measurable impact.

This role is office-based, from either our Eindhoven (Netherlands), Brno (Czechia), or Hillsboro (Oregon, USA) sites.  Some international travel will be required – up to 25%, including overnight stays.

What will you do?

  • Define and lead an innovation-driven service logistics strategy, aligning network design, digital tools, and operational execution to support MSD growth and service excellence.
  • Champion operational excellence, embedding standard work, continuous improvement, and performance management across planning, distribution, transportation, and field logistics.
  • Drive digital transformation, advancing automation, analytics, forecasting, and system integration to improve decision-making, visibility, and scalability.
  • Improve customer outcomes by increasing parts availability, reducing cycle time, and minimizing instrument downtime.
  • Lead and develop a global team, fostering a culture that values learning, accountability, inclusion, and improvement.
  • Partner closely with Manufacturing, Service, Planning, Quality, and Commercial teams to align priorities, support new product introductions, and simplify end-to-end workflows.
  • Optimize the global logistics network, including distribution centers, forward stocking locations, to balance speed, cost, quality, and sustainability.
  • Establish clear performance metrics and dashboards that drive transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement across MSD service logistics.
  • Lead structured problem-solving and transformation initiatives, using data to identify root causes and deliver sustainable solutions.
  • Strengthen operational resilience through scenario planning, risk mitigation, and business-continuity strategies.
  • Communicate progress and priorities at the executive level, translating operational results into strategic insights.
  • Own budget and productivity targets, delivering efficiency gains while supporting growth and service commitments.

Who we are looking for:

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in service logistics, supply chain, or operations within complex, global organizations.
  • Demonstrated success driving innovation and operational excellence, including process redesign, digital enablement, and performance transformation.
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end service logistics, including inventory strategy, network optimization, warehouse operations, and transportation.
  • Proven ability to lead global, cross-functional teams and influence outcomes in matrixed environments.
  • Data-driven mindset with the ability to turn insights into clear priorities and sustained results.
  • Executive-level communication skills, with the ability to align stakeholders around strategy and execution.
  • Leadership style grounded in accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or professional certification (Lean, Six Sigma, CSCP, CPIM) preferred.
  • Advanced level of English language.

What’s in it for you:

We offer competitive remuneration, an annual incentive plan bonus scheme and a range of employee benefits! Thermo Fisher Scientific offers employment with an innovative, forward-thinking organization, and outstanding career and development prospects. We offer an exciting company culture that stands for integrity, intensity, involvement, and innovation.
