  • 5+ years of increasing responsibilities in EHS or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, or service operations experience

  • Experience performing or leading structured safety analyses such as FMEA, FTA, or HAZOP for complex automated or robotic systems
  • Experience integrating safety requirements into product or system design processes, partnering with engineering teams to deliver safety-by-design
  • Experience providing safety engineering support across multiple sites, including coordination of priorities and consistent application of standards
  • Experience with OSHA General Industry standards (29 CFR 1910), hazardous waste management (RCRA), and regulatory reporting requirements

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Safety Engineering, or Systems Engineering
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Machinery Safety Expert (CMSE), and/or TUV or equivalent Functional Safety Engineer certification

Amazon Robotics’ (AR) Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Team is seeking a Senior Safety Engineer to support our automation technology development and manufacturing teams. This role will provide technical safety expertise and leadership associated with innovation and ideation phases as well as the manufacturing and production system by driving a systematic approach to identify, mitigate and manage risk to meet Amazon, regulatory and industry standards.

This role will functionally partner internally with Innovation, Hardware, Design and Functional Safety Engineering, Controls, Manufacturing, System Integration, SW, Program, Deployment and Site EHS teams, and externally with 3Ps, Integrators, NRTLs, etc. Role may require travel up to 15% of the time.

Key job responsibilities
• Establish and communicate safety requirements and specifications for Innovation, R&D labs, Manufacturing/Production System based on Amazon, regulatory, and harmonized industry standards

•Develop and drive safety and compliance roadmap for R&D and manufacturing/production system. Make use of strong skills for building consensus and alignment between internal and external partners on project safety goals, balancing the needs of the many stakeholders involved, including considerations on safety, security, reliability, cost, and maintainability.

•Lead and support innovation and production system teams and 3Ps to deliver safe design for various build, commission and test phases per regulatory requirements such as OSHA/NRTL/Machinery Directive, as well as industry standards such as ISO 12100/ANSI B11/NFPA 79/IEC 60204/ISO 13849/other applicable standards such as ANSI B30.13/EN 528/ANSI RIA R15.06/R15.08/ISO10218/EN.

•In partnership with our Innovation, Manufacturing and Site EHS teams, investigate incidents or unexpected behavior with the technology in our buildings and develop concrete proposals to mitigate and prevent future incidents.

•Develop approaches to risk analysis for robotics and integrated automation systems including unintentional risks they create during testing and manufacturing.

•Build a safety culture that enables and assists our technical engineering teams to develop and deploy safe and compliant products, systems and solutions.

•Identify gaps/opportunities in processes, and organizations (e.g., workflows, risk assessments, controls, etc.) to enable high standards and consistency in application.

•Support the development of solutions that meet Amazon’s high standards for safety, risk reduction, customer satisfaction, efficiency, scalability, simplicity, and operational excellence.

•Maintain and leverage industry partnerships to support safety engineering programs.

•Apply project management skills to manage scope, define technical requests, research appropriate expertise required, identify the relevant teams and members to coordinate resource deployment on tasks, analyze risks and develop mitigation strategies to proactively identify and resolve issues.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
