Job Description & Summary

This is what you will do

You'll join the team working on value creation projects within our Delivering Deal Value team, where Finance and Operations meet. We advise buyers and sellers on one central question: what is the financial impact of operational and organisational change during a transaction? Our work is predominantly pre-deal and covers carve-out assessments, operational due diligence, synergy assessments and business plan reviews - the analyses that shape the investment decision.

 As an Associate you form the analytical engine of these engagements. Working closely with your Manager, you research the target and its market, dig into operational and financial data, and build the analyses that put a number on what the team finds. If a factory needs capex, if capacity won't support the sales projections, if a carve-out breaks a shared supply chain - you're the one working out what that means financially. Concretely, you will:

  • Research companies, sectors and benchmarks to build the fact base your team works from;
  • Analyse a target's core operations - capacity, manufacturing, supply chain, warehousing, asset base - and translate findings into financial consequences;
  • Build clear, well-structured Excel models that size operational costs, risks and upsides;
  • Support carve-out and synergy analyses by quantifying separation costs, one-offs, stranded costs and potential synergies;
  • Prepare the building blocks of our deliverables - databooks, analyses, report sections and slides - and join client and management meetings, where you'll get exposure to senior stakeholders from day one.

You'll recognize yourself in this

You're curious about how businesses actually work, and you naturally reach for the numbers to understand them. You can look at an operational issue and start thinking about what it costs; you can look at a set of financials and start asking what's happening in the business behind them. Furthermore you have:

  • Financial acumen: you're strongly numerate, able to understand financial statements, and understand how operational decisions land in financial metrics;
  • Business acumen: a genuine interest in how companies create value — their cost base, capacity, supply chain and asset base — and the ability to work out what matters most in a given business;
  • An affinity with M&A: you understand what a transaction is and why buyers and sellers need this analysis, and you want to build your career in a deals environment;
  • Excellent Excel skills and the ability to build clear, structured models from scratch;
  • A university degree (Master's) in Finance, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering or a related quantitative discipline;
  • 0–2 years of relevant work experience; an internship in deals, corporate finance, consulting, audit or a corporate finance/operations team is a plus;
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken; professional level of Dutch is highly appreciated.
