The AWS Builder Tools Amazon Software Provenance Tracking (ASPT) team is looking for a Software Development Manager (SDM) to help us in our mission to make developers focus on coding, and making their life easier with automated software provenance and traceability. As an SDM III, you will own the delivery of the software provenance tracking tooling for Amazon developers. Our job is to make it a pleasure to be an engineer at Amazon by taking the pain out of the mechanical parts of software development. More specifically, we own the tools Amazonians use to track and verify the provenance of their production code from end to end.

If you're excited to have a large impact in the cloud computing industry, you'll find this role to be engaging, challenging, and full of opportunities to learn and grow.

In the Amazon Software Provenance Tracking team, we:
- Provide end to end provenance tracking and traceability for software artifacts across Amazon's build and release pipelines.
- Provide tools for large scale software integrity verification and governance.

Key job responsibilities
- Lead and grow a high performing team of software engineers building software provenance tracking systems that operate at massive scale, serving hundreds of thousands of developers.
- Own the end to end delivery of tools that trace and verify software artifacts across build and release pipelines, ensuring full visibility into the origin and integrity of every component.
- Define and drive the technical roadmap for provenance tooling, balancing near term delivery with long term platform investments aligned to security and compliance goals.
- Partner with engineering, security, and compliance teams to embed provenance tracking seamlessly into existing developer workflows, minimizing friction while maximizing coverage.
- Raise the bar on engineering practices across the team, including code quality, testing strategies, operational readiness, and incident response for mission critical infrastructure.
- Translate complex technical challenges into clear business outcomes and communicate progress, risks, and strategic direction to senior leadership.
- Attract, develop, and retain top engineering talent by creating an environment where engineers do their best work and grow their careers.

About the team
The Amazon Software Provenance Tracking (ASPT) team is part of Amazon Software Builder Experience (ASBX), the organization that builds the development platform used by all Amazon engineers. We are focused on solving one of the most critical challenges in modern software development: knowing exactly where your code comes from and ensuring its integrity throughout the entire software supply chain.

Our team builds the systems that track every software artifact from its origin through build, release, and deployment. We give engineering teams confidence that the code running in production is exactly what they intended, with a complete and verifiable chain of custody. In a world where software supply chain security is more important than ever, our work directly protects the software that powers Amazon and AWS.

We are a growing team that values ownership, technical depth, and customer obsession. We operate at massive scale, serving hundreds of thousands of developers, and we move fast while maintaining the highest standards for security and reliability. If you want to work on hard problems that matter at the intersection of developer experience, security, and software governance, this is the team for you.
