About the role
Original posting provided by IMC Trading
Our Sydney Business Operations Engineering team creates scalable, business-critical applications and tools that automate and support teams across IMC. They gather requirements and feedback from a wide range of internal stakeholders and turn them into creative automation solutions built on modern engineering practices.
As the team grows the number of processes it runs and the range of stakeholders it supports, we are investing heavily in how we scale by using agentic coding to accelerate development, and building AI into the automation itself so that analysis which has always been manual can start with a machine-generated first pass. You would join a small team with real ownership and a direct line to the people who use what you build.
Your core responsibilities:
- Develop, test, deploy, and maintain high-performance Python applications.
- Build agentic workflows that perform first-pass analysis, so our business teams start from a considered position rather than a blank page
- Design agents that work through a problem end to end — assembling the relevant data, identifying likely causes, and presenting something a subject-matter expert can interrogate
- Take ownership of end-to-end development, from requirements gathering through to production deployment
- Use agentic coding tools to move faster, while holding a high bar for what goes into production
- Apply strong automated testing practices and frequent deployment to deliver incremental value
- Balance trade-offs between latency, throughput, simplicity, scalability, and maintainability in a complex technology landscape.
Your skills and experience:
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong focus on Python
- You have shipped something real with LLMs or agentic tooling — an agent, a workflow, an internal tool — and can talk about where it worked, where it did not, and what you would do differently
- Experience with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines Strong communication skills and the ability to work with cross-functional teams and non-technical stakeholders
- Prior knowledge of financial markets or trading is not required, but curiosity and a willingness to learn are essential
