As a Site Electrical Engineer, you will be a key member of the Ground Systems development team responsible for the Leo Ground Gateway (GGT) and Telemetry, Tracking, and Control (TT&C) Sites.

As a Site Electrical Engineer, you will:

• Support the development and deployment of reliable electrical power infrastructure for Amazon Leo antenna ground stations worldwide
• Collaborate with antenna and multidisciplinary engineering teams
• Review vendor design packages including product submittals, as-built documents and test reports for compliance with Site Hosting Specification (SHS) and governing codes
• Create power system commissioning and acceptance procedures and provide field troubleshooting support during international global site installations

Key job responsibilities
In this role you will be responsible for:

• Electrical power-distribution system design for mission-critical infrastructure, including single-line diagrams, load calculations, panel schedules, equipment sizing, and power-distribution drawings
• Review and approval of electrical drawings, product submittals and as-built documentation for technical accuracy, completeness, constructability and code compliance
• Development and refinement of electrical requirements for antenna ground stations across diverse countries, utility standards, grid conditions, and environmental constraints
• Design of resilient power architectures for locations with unreliable utility service, incorporating standby generators, automatic transfer switches (ATS), uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), power-conditioning or voltage-regulation equipment, and energy-storage systems
• Design of grounding, bonding, surge protection, and lightning-protection for antennas, sensitive electronics, communications equipment, and supporting infrastructure for protection against lightning, voltage fluctuations, frequency variations, and other utility-power disturbances
• Collaborating with civil, structural, network, controls, and antenna systems engineering teams to define equipment power, grounding, environmental, and interface requirements
• Development of commissioning plans, inspection procedures, installation checklists, acceptance criteria, and functional test procedures
• Verification of generator startup, ATS operation, UPS runtime, protection-device coordination, grounding integrity, alarm reporting, and automatic recovery following power interruptions
• Field troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of electrical installation, commissioning, grounding, equipment-integration, and power-quality issues

Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

A day in the life
In the role of Site Electrical Engineer, you will conduct weekly meetings with engineering consultants and construction vendors. You will provide technical oversight in the development and review of vendor drawings and oversee infrastructure acceptance testing at the completion of site upgrades. You will also work with and be a part of an experienced cross-disciplinary team responsible for the deployment of a global network of ground gateway stations that support the LEO constellation and enable high throughput communication for Amazon customers.

About the team
The Ground Systems team is responsible for the architecture, design, build, and installation of Leo’s Ground and TT&C Gateways. Our Ground Gateways enable high data rate, low latency communications between Leo Points of Presence and our Low Earth Orbit Satellite constellation. Our TT&C Gateways support satellite Launch and Early Orbit enabling command and control of the satellites during this critical phase. The team works closely with the Networks, Regulatory, Payload Test, and RF Systems teams to ensure Leo provides a seamless customer experience.
