About the role
Original posting provided by amazon
Compliance testing is a critical-path activity for all Amazon Robotics hardware products, so this role directly influences the organization's ability to launch products on schedule. The manager partners closely with the product compliance engineering team, who define the compliance strategy, test requirements, and submit work requests to the labs. The manager and lab team execute against those requests, providing expert feedback on test standards and test methodologies.
Key job responsibilities
- Laboratory operations and accreditation. Lead day-to-day operations of two geographically separated, independently accredited ISO 17025 laboratories. Serve as Quality Manager, maintaining A2LA accreditation, developing quality policy, and driving continuous improvement so that lab results are accepted by third-party certification agencies.
- Team leadership. Manage and develop a team of engineers across EMC/EMI, RF, and electrical product safety disciplines. Assign and re-prioritize work based on business impact, and grow technical capability across both sites.
- Prioritization and capacity planning. Balance competing priorities across the Amazon Robotics product portfolio (and supporting FTR and broader Amazon business units). Make strategic decisions on resource allocation, project prioritization, and capacity planning, accommodating urgent testing requests while honoring scheduled commitments.
- Strategic capability expansion. Define problems and develop strategies in ambiguous situations that impact long-term organizational goals. Plan for new testing capabilities. Coordinate with facilities, procurement, and technical teams to execute multi-year expansion roadmaps.
- Operational excellence and metrics. Drive efficiency improvements, develop metrics systems to track laboratory performance, and implement automation solutions that reduce cycle times without adding headcount.
- Business planning and communication. Navigate budget processes, identify and justify equipment needs for capability expansion, and articulate growth opportunities, resource needs, and strategic initiatives to senior leadership.
- Cross-functional partnership. Build strong relationships with the product compliance engineering team, program management, and executive stakeholders. Serve as the labs' technical authority on test standards and methodology, communicate complex technical and regulatory concepts clearly to diverse audiences, and maintain credibility through reliable delivery.
A day in the life
As Compliance Laboratory Manager, you lead operations across two A2LA-accredited labs at BOS12 and BOS27. A typical day balances competing testing priorities from across Amazon Robotics' product portfolio, reprioritizing work to keep critical-path programs on schedule. You partner with product compliance engineers reviewing incoming work requests, guide your team of EMC, RF, and electrical safety engineers through complex testing, and safeguard ISO 17025 accreditation as Quality Manager. You drive efficiency and automation improvements, plan future lab capabilities, and communicate resource needs to leadership, ensuring the labs reliably enable on-time, compliant product launches.
