Join Microsoft’s Digital Safety Unit (DSU) as Senior Corporate Counsel and help shape a safer digital future empowering every person on the planet, including children and teenagers, to leverage and learn from Microsoft’s technology. In this role, you will advance global trust by addressing harmful and illegal online content, strengthen protections for vulnerable users, and enable safer interactive AI experiences. In this role, you will provide clear, practical legal counsel to product and engineering teams across Microsoft; anticipate and respond to emerging regulatory trends; support regulatory engagement; and deliver innovative, agile legal solutions at the pace of Microsoft’s business



Responsibilities
 
  • Serve as legal counsel for assigned teams and projects. 
  • Provide strategic legal guidance on online safety, child safety platform and product protections, and provide guidance on regulatory compliance.  

  • Manage cross-functional projects at scale. 

  • Build trusted professional relationships across the company with product and engineering teams and with external stakeholders. 

  • Exercise sound judgment in a fast-paced, evolving regulatory landscape. 

  • Partner effectively across CELA and engineering in a highly matrixed environment. 

  • Demonstrate deep legal expertise and the ability to remain curious and think creatively. 



Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications
  • Juris Doctor Degree or international equivalent degree AND 6+ years experience as a practicing attorney
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.
Additional or preferred qualifications:
  • 5+ years of in-house counsel experience in a matrixed organization.
  • Background in specialized or regulated practice areas (privacy, cybersecurity, AI, product legal).
  • Experience managing legal projects within deadlines and budgets.
  • Experience managing outside counsel. 
  • Proven collaborator dedicated to achieving collective success.
  • Ability to foster cooperation, solve problems creatively and professionally, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated growth mindset with a record of learning from both successes and challenges.


Legal Counsel IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $147,000 - $258,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $185,900 - $278,900 per year.
