Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Support HS classification activities for mechanical, electrical, and scientific products, including instruments, spare parts, accessories, and reagents
  • Collect and review product technical specifications, engineering drawings, and supporting documentation required for classification analysis
  • Assist in determining appropriate HS codes in accordance with China and applicable international customs regulations
  • Maintain and update classification data within Thermo Fisher’s trade compliance databases and ERP systems
  • Partner with Engineering, Product Management, Procurement, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing teams to obtain technical product information
  • Support classification reviews for localization and sourcing projects
  • Ensure import/export declarations are aligned with approved HS classifications
  • Support customs audits, post-entry reviews, and regulatory inquiries by preparing supporting documentation and classification rationale
  • Monitor regulatory updates related to customs classification requirements
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance classification accuracy and operational efficiency
  • Collaborate with brokers, suppliers, and external service providers on classification-related matters
  • Support internal compliance reporting and data analysis activities

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in International Trade, Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or related field
  • 1–3 years of experience in trade compliance, customs operations, or HS classification
  • Experience or exposure to mechanical, electrical, industrial, or manufacturing products preferred

Preferred Background

  • Familiarity with analytical instruments, mechanical equipment, or manufacturing industry products
  • Basic understanding of import/export regulations and customs classification concepts
  • Exposure to HS classification processes is preferred

Required Skills & Experience

  • Basic knowledge of HS classification principles and customs regulations
  • Interest in mechanical and industrial product classification
  • Ability to read and interpret technical product information and specifications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented with good data management capabilities
  • Good communication skills in English; Chinese language skills are preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated with willingness to learn and grow in trade compliance
  • Team-oriented mindset with strong cross-functional collaboration skills
