Position Summary 

We are seeking a Staff Systems Engineer to join a growing R&D team in Hyderabad supporting sustaining engineering, VAVE, and lifecycle management for the KingFisher sample preparation systems and Detection instruments. 

In this role, you will act as a technical lead for system and subsystem initiatives, driving cross-functional problem solving, supporting system architecture, and ensuring product performance, reliability, and cost competitiveness. You will play a key role in executing sustaining and VAVE programs, while contributing to the development of local capabilities that will expand into future product development ownership. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

Systems Engineering & Technical Leadership 

  • Act as a technical lead for system or subsystem initiatives, working across hardware, software, firmware, and consumables.  

  • Contribute to system architecture, requirements definition, and interface specifications 

  • Lead root cause investigations and structured problem solving for complex technical issues.  

  • Drive design trade-offs with guidance from senior technical leaders.  

Sustaining Engineering & Lifecycle Management 

  • Execute and lead workstreams for sustaining engineering, including issue resolution, design updates, and component obsolescence.  

  • Support development and execution of lifecycle management plans 

  • Partner with global teams to ensure effective knowledge transfer and continuity of product understanding.  

Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE) 

  • Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities at system and subsystem levels.  

  • Lead or contribute to cross-functional VAVE initiatives with R&D, operations, and sourcing.  

  • Evaluate alternative components and design changes to improve cost and scalability.  

Technical Contribution & Platform Support 

  • Contribute to technology and product roadmap discussions, providing system-level input.  

  • Support system integration, verification, and validation activities.  

  • Help advance the team’s capabilities toward broader product development ownership 

Global & Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Collaborate with global R&D teams (Finland, US, Singapore) to support knowledge transfer and ongoing technical alignment.  

  • Partner with Business Unit Product Management to ensure alignment of technical execution with product priorities.  

  • Interface with manufacturing, quality, service, and sourcing to support product performance and issue resolution.  

  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative team environment 

 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or related); advanced degree preferred.  

  • 8+ years of experience in systems engineering, product development, or related roles 

  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary systems (hardware, software, firmware, etc.).  

  • Strong skills in problem solving, root cause analysis, and technical execution 

  • Experience working in cross-functional and global team environments 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with life sciences or analytical instrumentation (e.g., sample prep, PCR/qPCR).  

  • Experience with VAVE, cost reduction, or design for manufacturability 

  • Familiarity with product development processes and design controls 

  • Experience with requirements management and system integration 

  • Ability to influence and collaborate across teams 

 

Impact 

  • Serves as a technical lead for key system and subsystem initiatives 

  • Drives execution of sustaining engineering and VAVE efforts 

  • Contributes to system-level decisions and product improvements 

  • Supports the growth of R&D capability in Hyderabad.
