Summary
Are you ready to make a significant impact in Apple Services? At Apple, new ideas have a way of becoming phenomenal products, services, and customer experiences very quickly — and if you are passionate about telling compelling data stories with creative and insightful visualizations, we would love for you to apply. The Apple Services Data Science & Analytics team drives decisions that improve the customer experience, accelerate growth, and uncover new business opportunities while respecting user privacy. We work on some of the largest e-commerce and media streaming businesses in the world, with an exceptional team collaborating on the best ways to improve these services for our customers. Our team's culture is centered around rapid iteration, open feedback, and healthy debate to arrive at the best outcomes. We encourage independent decision-making and taking calculated risks. Our team partners as an analytical advisor with colleagues across product, design, engineering, marketing, editorial, and business.
Description
As the lead iCloud Insights Engineer on the Services Data Science & Analytics team, you will own and drive the data product and application strategy for one of Apple's largest and fastest-growing services. You will build new data products and applications that give Business and Engineering partners clear visibility into the health of the business and the performance of new initiatives — enabling faster, more confident decision-making at scale. In this role, you will design and build custom, AI-assisted web applications that make massive internet-scale data more accessible, interactive, and actionable across the business. You will work with data spanning numerous product and customer touchpoints and design full-stack data applications — often leveraging AI/LLM-based features (natural language querying, automated insight generation, intelligent summarization, agentic workflows) — to drive faster, more informed decision-making. A strong fit for this role is someone who can operate as both an engineer and an analytical thinker: comfortable architecting a web application end-to-end, fluent in modern AI tooling, and equally capable of communicating and collaborating across technical and business teams. You will bring an agile approach to solving ambiguous, challenging problems quickly, with strong attention to detail and product craft. We are looking for someone to design and build the next generation of executive reporting solutions, highly polished interactive tools, and self-service data products enhanced by AI capabilities. You will closely partner with Data Science peers to define metrics, design datasets, and develop the automation and AI-driven pipelines that power these tools. As a senior/lead member of the team, you will help set technical direction and best practices for our application development efforts, mentor other engineers, and act as a hands-on architect and builder. Extensive collaboration with Product, Business, Engineering, and Marketing teams is essential to our success. In this role, you will iterate with these teams on key business outcomes, influence how our services are measured, and craft world-class applications and insights to support them at scale. As your ideas take shape, you will help drive a comprehensive roadmap to communicate and manage stakeholder expectations while enabling org-wide transparency on progress. In this role, you will gain experience leading complex, cross-functional projects — from architecture and planning through execution and delivery. Ideally, you bring a curious, product-minded engineering approach with the ability to distill complex concepts into clear, elegant application experiences that drive action. We are looking for someone known for effectively bridging engineering, AI/analytics, and business teams, with the ability to speak the language of all three.
Responsibilities
• Own and drive the data product and application strategy for iCloud on the Services Data Science & Analytics team
• Design and build custom, AI-assisted full-stack web applications that surface internet-scale data as interactive, actionable insights
• Integrate AI/LLM capabilities (natural language querying, automated insight generation, intelligent summarization, agentic workflows) into data products and pipelines
• Partner with Data Science peers to define metrics, design datasets, and develop automation and AI-driven pipelines powering these tools
• Architect and deliver next-generation executive reporting solutions, polished interactive tools, and self-service data products
• Set technical direction and best practices for application development efforts across the team
• Mentor other engineers and act as a hands-on architect and builder on high-visibility initiatives
• Collaborate extensively with Product, Business, Engineering, and Marketing teams to iterate on key business outcomes and influence how services are measured
• Drive a comprehensive roadmap to manage stakeholder expectations and enable org-wide transparency on progress
• Lead complex, cross-functional projects from architecture and planning through execution and delivery
Minimum Qualifications
8+ years of experience in a Data Visualization, Data/Analytics Engineering, Data Science, or Software Engineering role, with demonstrated progression into more senior or technical-lead scope
• Hands-on experience building and deploying custom web applications (e.g., using frameworks such as React, Streamlit, Flask, Django, Next.js, or similar) as an alternative or complement to traditional BI tools
• Practical experience integrating AI/LLM capabilities into applications or workflows (e.g., prompt-based interfaces, retrieval-augmented generation, AI agents, copilots, or automated insight/reporting generation)
• Strong SQL skills and experience designing data models and pipelines to support responsive, highly interactive applications
• Proficiency with data visualization tools for legacy reporting in support of custom-built web applications
• Familiarity with data engineering tools and concepts, data pipeline development, and aggregation strategies at scale
• Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior partners and represent the team's technical direction
• Proven ability to lead projects independently, mentor other engineers, and balance multiple high-visibility initiatives with tight deadlines
• BS in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Systems, Engineering, Economics, or a related field
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in a digital subscription business or large-scale e-commerce or media streaming platform
• Strong Python skills, including experience with AI/ML libraries (e.g., LangChain, OpenAI/LLM APIs, scikit-learn) and Spark for large-scale data processing
• Experience designing and building AI agents or agentic workflows for internal tooling or analytics automation
• Track record of leading a team or driving technical strategy through a tool migration or major architectural shift
• Familiarity with cloud-native application deployment and modern front-end/back-end development practices
• MS in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Systems, Engineering, Economics, or a related field
