Amazon Web Services (AWS) customers trust us to protect their data with impeccable physical security, and the AWS Data Center Operations Physical Security team is at the center of that mission. We are looking for a Cluster Security Manager to lead security operations across multiple data center sites, developing strategy and driving compliance while continuously evolving our security practices to stay ahead of emerging threats. In this role, you will manage a team of security professionals, build relationships with data center business partners, and coordinate with teams across Operations, HR, Logistics, Design and Engineering, and Construction to keep security synchronized with broader business goals. If you are a self-starter who thrives on building high-performing teams and closing security gaps before they become problems, we want to hear from you.

Key job responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of security professionals and contract security staff, providing clear guidance, coaching, and career development support to meet operational objectives across multiple data center sites.
- Plan, implement, and manage security programs — including Emergency Response and Crisis Management, Physical Security, and Incident Management — while coordinating investigations with internal intelligence teams.
- Perform continual risk analysis for data center sites, identify vulnerabilities early, and design strategies to close security gaps related to threats such as crime, workplace violence, and natural or man-made disasters.
- Oversee physical security systems including access control, intrusion detection, and video surveillance, ensuring compliance with security procedures, standards, and policies across all facilities.
- Build and maintain relationships with data center business partners and liaise with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to execute a comprehensive security strategy that enables our partners to build customer capacity.

A day in the life
You will start your day reviewing security metrics and incident reports before connecting with your team to align on priorities. From there, you may conduct a risk assessment for a site, coordinate with Construction on security requirements for a new build, or meet with Operations leadership to synchronize security services with changing customer requirements. You will also hold one-on-ones with direct reports to discuss their development goals and ensure the team has the resources it needs to succeed.

About the team
The AWS Data Center Operations Physical Security team protects AWS personnel, facilities, and the information our customers entrust to us. Our team brings together security professionals with backgrounds spanning law enforcement, military, and private security, providing a range of perspectives that drive creative problem-solving. We believe there are no perfect security solutions, so we develop and iterate using a continuous improvement process. We work closely with partners in Operations, Logistics, Design and Engineering, and Construction to keep security aligned with the pace of AWS growth.

Basic Qualifications

- Experience in physical security best practices including application of physical security systems, investigation techniques, management of contract security guards and incident management
- Experience managing contract security and physical security operation programs such as access control/intrusion detection and CCTV surveillance systems
- Experience managing a team of individual contributors and vendors

Preferred Qualifications

- 5+ years of process improvement procedure creation experience
- 10+ years of physical security experience
- 5+ years of security management experience
- 5+ years of leadership role experience
