Original job description

Content provided by the employer

The Luna Streaming Instance Provisioning Service (SIPS) team is looking for a Software Development Manager to lead a team of engineers responsible for the critical control-plane systems that power Amazon's cloud gaming platform. SIPS sits at the heart of the game streaming stack, owning streaming capacity and infrastructure, customer routing, session management, and queuing systems that work together to connect customers to the right streaming resources with high availability and low latency.

As the Software Development Manager for SIPS, you will own the technical direction, execution, and operational excellence of large-scale distributed systems responsible for managing the end-to-end streaming session lifecycle. This includes determining where customer sessions should be routed, allocating and managing GPU-based compute capacity across AWS regions, orchestrating streaming sessions, and managing customer queues when capacity is constrained.

You will lead the evolution of intelligent routing and capacity management systems that make real-time decisions based on customer location, latency, capacity availability, game requirements, infrastructure health, and other signals. You will also drive improvements to session management and queuing mechanisms to provide a reliable customer experience during both normal operations and periods of high demand.

The team operates large-scale GPU-based EC2 fleets across multiple AWS regions and plays a critical role in major game and product launches. You will partner closely with senior engineers and teams across Streaming, Game Publishing, AWS infrastructure, and EC2 to anticipate demand, improve fleet utilization, address infrastructure constraints, and ensure the platform can scale reliably as the business grows.

This role provides an opportunity to solve challenging distributed-systems problems across routing, scheduling, capacity management, session orchestration, queuing, resiliency, and infrastructure automation. You will define the long-term technical roadmap for these systems while driving improvements in availability, scalability, operational efficiency, and infrastructure cost.

As a people leader, you will hire, develop, and mentor engineers, establish strong engineering and operational practices, and create clear ownership across the team's services. The ideal candidate combines strong people leadership with a solid technical background in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, large-scale scheduling or routing systems, and highly available customer-facing services.

Key job responsibilities
- Lead the SIPS engineering team responsible for critical streaming control-plane systems, including customer routing, session management, queuing, capacity management, and fleet infrastructure.
- Own the technical vision, architecture, roadmap, and execution for highly available distributed systems supporting large-scale game streaming workloads.
- Drive intelligent routing and session placement strategies using customer latency, capacity availability, game requirements, and infrastructure health to deliver a reliable and low-latency streaming experience.
- Own session lifecycle and queuing systems, ensuring the platform scales effectively during demand spikes, capacity constraints, infrastructure failures, and major game launches.
- Drive capacity planning, provisioning, allocation, and fleet utilization across GPU-based EC2 infrastructure while balancing customer experience, availability, and infrastructure cost.
- Improve platform scalability, resiliency, automation, observability, and operational excellence, reducing manual operations and preventing recurring customer-impacting issues.
- Partner with Streaming, Game Publishing, Product, EC2, and other AWS infrastructure teams to deliver cross-organizational initiatives and ensure capacity and infrastructure readiness for major launches.
- Establish mechanisms and metrics for availability, latency, queue experience, capacity readiness, utilization, and operational health.
- Hire, mentor, and develop engineers, establish clear ownership and strong engineering practices, and build a high-performing team capable of solving complex distributed systems and infrastructure challenges.
