Are you passionate about leveraging GenAI and advanced AWS technologies to simplify builder experience and accelerate innovations at AWS scale? We are building a new organization, AWS Builder Acceleration (AWSBA), focused on reducing toil and increasing building efficiency across AWS builders. Our mission is to accelerate AWS builder teams' innovation by eliminating friction throughout the software development and operational lifecycle. Through AI-based automated solutions and centralized service management, we address fundamental challenges including Maintenance mode services operation burden, launch readiness complexities, and recurring operational load. Through continuous collaboration with builder teams to identify emerging challenges, we shape our strategic roadmap to reinvent the development and operational ecosystem.

We are seeking an experienced Principal Engineer to lead AWSBA's technical direction and simplify the software development experience for 20,000+ AWS engineers. You will shape AWS builder experience from the ground up with a singular mission: make software development, deployment, and maintenance simpler across AWS. Success requires building services and tools that reduce friction, listening closely to what your internal customers tell you gets in the way of building, influencing the Amazon Software Builder Experience (ASBX) roadmap, and driving transformation for engineering teams. You will harness advanced technologies — including AI-powered tooling, agentic workflows, multi-agent orchestration, and innovative AWS solutions — to create next-generation software builder experiences at AWS scale.

This role requires deep AWS institutional knowledge. You have built and operated AWS services. You understand the launch readiness process, the operational patterns, the internal toolchains (Brazil, Coral, Kiro, BuilderHub, Pipelines), and the organizational dynamics of coordinating across dozens of AWS teams. You bring this lived experience to architect solutions that work within the AWS ecosystem — not generic approaches that ignore the realities of how AWS builders actually work.

This role requires ownership, autonomy, and an ability to deliver results. You should be a self-starter with a bias towards independent problem solving. Clear communication and prioritization will be important as you partner with stakeholders to plan, design, and deliver game-changing builder experiences to accelerate innovation. Your passion for improving builder experiences, and proven experience managing complex technology projects, will help you make strong strategic judgments.

Key job responsibilities
● Define and drive long-term technical strategy for AWS Builder Acceleration org across three workstreams: Launch Acceleration, OE Acceleration, and Service Care Center
● Architect the multi-agent orchestration framework (Launch Orchestrator Agent) coordinating 20+ independently owned sub-agents across AWS with safety guarantees and federated execution
● Design the Service Intelligence Knowledge Base platform that ingests service source code, infrastructure, and operational data to power GenAI-driven developer workflows
● Define the technical strategy for autonomous operations of all AWS maintenance mode services
● Identify and prioritize high-impact problems that impede AWS software development, leveraging firsthand AWS experience to validate problem framing
● Decompose complex builder problems into simple, straightforward, and scalable solutions
● Develop a strategic roadmap that delivers meaningful improvements weekly while working toward long-term transformation
● Establish team culture and coach other SDEs to set new standards for the ideal software builder experience
● Partner closely with ASBX while focusing on AWS-specific challenges, driving alignment with partner teams
● Make and defend decisions about scope and priorities, even when facing pressure from senior stakeholders

A day in the life
● Re-imagine how developers build and operate the software that underpins the world's largest cloud
● Shape a new organization from day one as a founding Principal Engineer
● Drive significant transformation across AWS engineering, impacting 20,000+ builders
● Pioneer the use of generative AI technologies — multi-agent orchestration, autonomous operations, service intelligence — to create the next generation of builder experiences

About the team
AWSBA sits at the intersection of three of the most important trends in software engineering — AI driven development, autonomous operations, and developer productivity. The org has direct VP-level sponsorship (AWS goals), a fully staffed team of ~40 engineers, and validated investment theses across all three workstreams. This is a greenfield technical challenge with real-world impact at AWS scale. You know these problems intimately because you have experienced them — and now you get to solve them permanently.
