Original job description

Content provided by the employer

Are you a builder who can decompose a business question into the drivers that matter and shape them into the decisions that run a global air network? Amazon Global Air's Global Insights & Analytics (GIA) team is hiring a Business Intelligence Engineer II to own analytics end to end: from an open-ended problem, to the data model and pipeline behind it, to the solution and narrative that drive the decision.

This is a role for someone who wants to master the analytical craft. You'll build on strong data foundations, pair them with predictive thinking (forecasting, variance attribution, and impact quantification), and design agentic, AI-native systems that enable the business to self-serve at speed.

You'll join a team of experienced engineers and partner directly with supply chain business stakeholders, operations leaders, product and program managers, and network leaders across Amazon Global Air.

Key job responsibilities
- Own analytics end to end: translate ambiguous business questions into well-defined metrics, data products, and analyses, and drive them through to adopted insight
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data models, ETL pipelines, and datasets that are trusted, well-documented, and reusable
- Write complex SQL to mine, validate, and analyze data across large, multi-dimensional datasets; conduct root-cause deep-dives and drive data-quality improvements
- Build and own product solutions that support day-to-day operational decision-making
- Develop and present clear written narratives and recommendations to senior leaders, connecting analysis to business impact and explaining plan-over-plan differences
- Use GenAI and agentic tooling as a primary part of the workflow, accelerating pipeline development, metric validation, documentation, and deep-dives
- Design self-service analytics and enablement so customers can answer routine questions themselves, rather than through a one-off engagement
- Apply predictive and analytical techniques (forecasting, trend analysis, anomaly detection) where they improve the quality of a decision, and ensure outputs are accurate, explainable, and actionable
- Provide thought leadership on data mining, metric definitions, and analytics best practices across the team

A day in the life
Most days mix focused analytical work with stakeholder time. You might start by decomposing a business question with an operations leader. Mid-morning you pair with a Data Engineer to validate a data model, then build an attribution view that isolates why a network metric moved. After lunch you prototype an agentic workflow that automates a recurring deep-dive your team used to do manually, test it against last week's actuals, and document how the business can trigger it themselves. Later you might draft the narrative for a WBR, quantifying the impact of a capacity decision and recommending next steps.

About the team
Global Insights & Analytics (GIA) is a centralized analytics team for Amazon Global Air, delivering the metrics, data products, and insights that leaders use to run and optimize the network. We're investing heavily in self-service and AI-native analytics to expand our reach and impact, and we care about building analytics that are trustworthy, well-modeled, and durable. You'll join a team of experienced BIEs who value deep technical craft and real business partnership.
