Original job description

Content provided by the employer

Are you a builder who can decompose a business question into the drivers that matter and shape them into the decisions that run a global air network? Amazon Global Air's Global Insights & Analytics (GIA) team is hiring a Senior Business Intelligence Engineer to define and own the analytical strategy for high-ambiguity problem spaces end to end: from framing the right question, to the scalable data architecture behind it, to the solution and narrative that drive cross-functional decisions.

This is a role for someone who wants to master the analytical craft at the senior level. You'll build on strong data foundations, pair them with predictive thinking (forecasting, variance attribution, and impact quantification), and design agentic, AI-native systems that enable the business to self-serve at speed. You'll also set technical direction for how the team does analytics, influence peers across organizations, and raise the bar on what "good" looks like for the broader DABI analytics community.

You'll join a team of experienced engineers and partner directly with supply chain business stakeholders, operations, product and program, and engineering leaders across Amazon Global Air and Amazon Transportation Services Network.

Key job responsibilities
- Define and own the analytical approach for ambiguous, cross-team problem spaces where no clear methodology exists; operate with independence
- Design scalable, extensible data architectures, ETL patterns, and metric frameworks that other BIEs and partner teams build on
- Write complex SQL to mine, validate, and analyze data across large, multi-dimensional datasets; conduct root-cause deep-dives and set the standard for data-quality practices
- Build and own strategic reporting and measurement systems that advance supply chain network current operations decisions and long-term planning decisions
- Develop and present clear written narratives and recommendations to senior and executive leadership, connecting analysis to business strategy and quantifying tradeoffs
- Drive the advancement of GenAI and agentic tooling across the team's workflow, setting the technical direction for how AI-native analytics get built and scaled
- Design self-service analytics and enablement mechanisms that compound the team's capacity and reduce dependency on individual BIEs
- Apply predictive and analytical techniques (forecasting, variance attribution, impact quantification) to influence decisions across multiple teams, and ensure outputs are accurate, explainable, and actionable
- Mentor L4/L5 BIEs; raise the technical and analytical bar across the team through code reviews, architecture guidance, and thought leadership

A day in the life
Most days mix strategic work with hands-on building. You start by framing a new cross-team analytics problem with a Director-level stakeholder, defining what "answered" means before assigning work. Mid-morning you review a BIE's data model and coach them on extensibility, then build a variance attribution framework that isolates why a network KPI moved. After lunch you prototype an agentic workflow that replaces a recurring manual deep-dive, validate it against production data, and document how partner teams can trigger it themselves. Later you draft the narrative for a senior leadership review, quantifying the tradeoff between two capacity strategies and recommending a path. You operate with independence but influence frequently.

About the team
Global Insights & Analytics (GIA) is the analytics function for Data, Analytics, and Business Intelligence team at Amazon Global Air, delivering the metrics, data products, and insights that leaders use to run and optimize the network. We're investing heavily in self-service and AI-native analytics to expand our reach and impact, and we care about building analytics that are trustworthy, well-modeled, and durable. You'll join a team of experienced BIEs who value deep technical craft and real business partnership.
