About the role
Original posting provided by amazon
In this role, you'll lead transformative initiatives across Amazon's last mile delivery network, spanning from traditional core delivery to emerging business models like Rush (under an hour), quick commerce, groceries, and pharmacy. You'll drive the reengineering of complex distributed systems, simplify architectures, and introduce AI-driven solutions that optimize routing, containerization, and dispatch at Amazon scale. Your work will directly influence technology decisions across the entire delivery network, balancing cost efficiency, station throughput, driver satisfaction, and customer experience while enabling capabilities like same-day and sub-same-day deliveries.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead strategically significant, multi-year technical programs across VP-level organizations, managing complex cross-functional initiatives that span architectural and algorithmic challenges in last mile planning and execution
- Drive simplification and efficiency improvements across distributed software systems handling 3.5+ billion packages annually, identifying and remediating critical and endemic problems at massive scale across 280+ delivery stations and 13+ countries
- Own the technical roadmap and influence business strategy for execution planning systems, partnering with engineering teams to design scalable solutions for routing optimization, containerization, and dispatch that balance competing concerns including cost, throughput, safety, and customer experience
- Define business and technical requirements, clarify ambiguities, and manage delivery timelines for high-visibility initiatives, making data-driven trade-offs to optimize return-on-investment while ensuring solutions remain generalizable and resilient to varying operational conditions
- Mentor and develop Technical Program Managers across the organization, establishing scalable mechanisms and best practices that drive operational excellence and enable teams to work independently
A day in the life
You sponsor and drive multi-year technical strategies that are tightly coupled to quarterly and yearly goals at Amazon scale. Your days involve running programs that require collaborative efforts across a distributed and heterogeneous software stack, working with engineering leaders and product managers to shape product vision and roadmaps. You lead technical deep dives to solve complex optimization problems, write strategic narratives for senior leadership, and proactively identify opportunities to streamline processes and eliminate technical complexity. You're constantly balancing trade-offs between competing priorities while ensuring delivery partners have a safe, compliant, and satisfying experience.
About the team
Execution Planning (EP) is responsible for planning routes executed by Amazon delivery partners across our expanding package delivery and pickup services, including Amazon Logistics, AMXL (heavy/bulky), Amazon Shipping, and Sub-same-day. The team tackles architectural and algorithmic challenges that enable critical capabilities for Amazon, from same-day deliveries to continuous package flow within delivery stations and robotic in-station package handling.
EP use science algorithms that ensure feasible plans are available from the moment packages are known until they're delivered. The team solves complex optimization problems including routing, containerization, and dispatch while balancing cost, station throughput, associate safety, on-road efficiency, driver satisfaction, and customer experience. Because the business changes rapidly, the team focuses on creating generalizable and resilient solutions that adapt to varying operational conditions across a growing set of delivery options and geographies.
