Job Description

The work location of this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team.

This role can be based in one of India offices (Bangalore, Mumbai, or Gurgaon).

As Litigation Counsel at LinkedIn and a member of LinkedIn’s Protection, Competition, and Defense team, you will be responsible for managing all kinds of litigation and pre-litigation disputes in APAC, primarily in India.  You will coordinate with and manage external counsel, barristers, and consultants to ensure effective representation.  You will also handle responses to law-enforcement and third-party subpoenas and regulatory responses. In addition, you will provide litigation, privacy, and regulatory risk counseling related to LinkedIn business issues.  Best of all, you’ll join a fast-paced, well-rounded, collaborative Legal & Public Policy Team that values diversity, humor, and teamwork. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Manage all kinds of litigation and pre-litigation disputes across India for the company.
  • Dig into the business and legal context of your matters in order to drive strategic and tactical case decisions
  • Develop the best possible evidentiary record for your cases by investigating sources of information available across the business
  • Handle subpoenas and regulatory inquiries, and other litigation-adjacent matters
  • Support and advise LinkedIn’s India Grievance and Compliance officers, particularly with government takedown requests and user disputes 
  • Support and advise LinkedIn’s Nodal officer and law enforcement response team regarding Indian law enforcement requests
  • Drive good business results by providing practical legal advice on a range of product issues impacted by active or threatened litigation matters 
  • Engage and manage outside counsel and vendors to ensure the delivery of practical, efficient, and expert litigation advice and service
  • Play an active role in fulfilling LinkedIn's mission of connecting the world's professionals to make them more productive and successful by being an integral member of our fast-paced, well-rounded, collaborative (and fun!) Legal & Public Policy Team 

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: 

  • LL.B/LL.M from a recognized university and admission to the bar (Certificate of Practice)
  • 3+ years of combined litigation experience at a law firm, in-house, and/or governmental agencies 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Candidates with prior litigation experience before courts and tribunals will be preferred.
  • Broad litigation experience including discovery, motion practice, oral arguments, trials, drafting compelling briefs, pre-suit activity, mediation, and settlement negotiations 
  • Experience with privacy and/or technology law
  • Experience and comfort with highly-technical subject matter 
  • Experience working in-house at a technology company or working closely with global technology clients 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively both independently and in cross-functional teams to drive results
  • Excellent judgment and analytical abilities, impeccable integrity, and a good sense of humor
