Content provided by the employer

We Are Looking For:

State Street is home to one of the most recognized and awarded brands in financial services. We commissioned Fearless Girl, a piece of work that has become a permanent fixture of the New York City skyline, won four Grand Prix at Cannes Lions and five Grand Clios in a single year, and earned State Street the industry's Advertiser of the Year title. Our advertising reaches senior operations and C-suite leaders at the largest and most complex financial institutions in the world, and it reaches millions of retail investors trying to make better decisions with their money as they invest for their future. Few brands in our industry get to operate at both ends of that spectrum, and we are looking for a leader who understands exactly what a privilege, and a responsibility, that is.

We are seeking a Global Head of Brand and Advertising who combines real commercial acumen with a genuine passion for storytelling, and who can lead with discipline while still pushing our teams of brand strategists, media planners, and our creative studio to think bigger. This is a builder and a steward in equal measure: someone who is obsessed with understanding our audiences deeply, who inspires their teams to think beyond category convention, and who can architect a brand ambition that is bold enough to matter and disciplined enough to execute at scale, across every business we run.

This leader will translate business strategy, market insight, and client needs into a differentiated brand platform, compelling experiences, and integrated campaigns that drive awareness, engagement, and growth. As steward of the State Street brand, they will establish a consistent enterprise approach across businesses, regions, and channels, while partnering closely with Commercial Marketing and our Marketing Centers of Excellence to bring the brand to life at every client and employee touchpoint. Reporting to the EVP, Global Chief Marketing Officer, this role will lead a global team of marketing professionals, creative specialists, and strategic agency partners.

What You Will Be Responsible For:

Brand Strategy and Governance

  • Define and govern State Street's global brand strategy, including positioning, brand architecture, messaging, visual identity, and standards.
  • Establish a differentiated enterprise narrative that connects State Street's strategy, capabilities, and client value across businesses and markets.
  • Own brand and advertising strategy for our core businesses, ensuring each has a distinctive, well-defined presence that reflects its specific clients and growth objectives while reinforcing one coherent enterprise brand.
  • Serve as the keeper of audience insight and brand health measurement, ensuring decisions across the function are grounded in a genuine, current understanding of how our audiences think, feel, and choose.
  • Leverage market intelligence, customer insights, and research to strengthen brand relevance, differentiation, and business impact.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leaders on brand strategy, reputation, and market positioning.

Creative and Brand Experience Leadership

  • Lead State Street's Brand & Creative function, establishing a compelling and consistent expression of the brand across channels, audiences, and experiences.
  • Build and modernize our creative studio into a best-in-class capability, expanding our strength in interactive formats, video production, and thoughtful use of AI-enabled creative tools, while elevating client engagement and executive visibility.
  • Drive the development of distinctive creative platforms and brand experiences that connect strategy to business objectives, and that inspire teams to think beyond conventional financial services advertising.
  • Foster a culture of creativity, innovation, and ambition, balanced with disciplined brand governance and quality standards.

Agency, Advertising and Media Leadership

  • Develop and oversee State Street's advertising and media strategy, ensuring investments support enterprise and business growth objectives.
  • Make our paid media strategy meaningfully more effective, building stronger analytical horsepower into planning, targeting, and optimization so every dollar works harder.
  • Lead the firm's agency ecosystem, managing our brand and media agency partners and establishing strategic partnerships, governance, performance expectations, and accountability across creative, media, research, experiential, and production partners.
  • Direct integrated campaigns that increase awareness, consideration, engagement, and differentiation among priority audiences, from institutional decision-makers to individual investors.
  • Partner across Marketing and Communications to deliver a cohesive market presence and maximize return on brand investment.

Sponsorships and Events

  • Help manage brand experience and strategy for our events, ensuring they express the brand as powerfully as our advertising does.
  • Lead a unified global sponsorship and events strategy that strengthens client relationships, industry engagement, and brand visibility.
  • Ensure a One State Street approach across signature events, strategic partnerships, and executive engagement platforms.
  • Establish governance and investment frameworks to prioritize opportunities and measure business impact.

Leadership, Operations and Performance

  • Set the vision, operating model, and strategic priorities for the function, aligning teams, resources, and investments to enterprise goals.
  • Build and lead a high-performing global organization while developing future leadership and critical capabilities.
  • Partner with Marketing Technology, Operations, and Measurement teams to define success metrics and demonstrate brand contribution to business results.
  • Manage budgets, agencies, and suppliers with strong financial discipline and operational rigor.
  • Drive continuous improvement in ways of working, capabilities, and organizational effectiveness across the function.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of senior leadership experience spanning brand strategy, creative, advertising, integrated marketing, sponsorships, events, and/or communications.
  • Proven track record building and scaling global brands within large, complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Deep expertise in brand strategy, creative development, advertising, media investment, and agency leadership, with real command of audience insight and brand health measurement.
  • Experience building modern creative capabilities, including video, interactive, multimedia, content production, and enterprise storytelling, with fluency in how AI is changing creative production.
  • Demonstrated success connecting brand investment to measurable business, client, and marketing outcomes, including strong analytical rigor in paid media performance.
  • Strong commercial orientation, using customer insight, analytics, and market intelligence to guide decisions and investment priorities.
  • Exceptional executive presence, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with proven ability to influence at the most senior levels.
  • A genuine passion for storytelling and a track record of inspiring teams to produce work that is both ambitious and disciplined.
  • Experienced people leader with a track record of building high-performing, diverse, and collaborative global teams spanning brand strategists, media planners, and creative talent.
  • Institutional financial services experience preferred.
  • Ability to manage projects across multiple stakeholders, timelines, and key deliverables, with a track record of connecting the dots to inform a larger strategy while maintaining an execution-oriented mindset.
  • A hands-on leader, equally comfortable setting strategy and rolling up their sleeves to support execution.
  • Ability to bring innovative ideas on how to effectively communicate with a new generation of leaders and employees.
