OfficeJob Description
Position Summary
As a Software Architect, you will shape the software architecture of our Desktop Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) products, working at the intersection of modern C++, hardware control, imaging, and scientific instrumentation.
You will define how our software platforms evolve, translating product roadmaps into scalable architectures and practical modernization strategies. You will work across software, systems engineering, hardware, SQA, and product teams while remaining hands-on with both the codebase and our microscopes.
This role is part of the expansion of our Brno Development Center, giving you the opportunity to influence the technical direction and engineering practices of our growing software organization.
Our Technology
Our Desktop SEM products combine sophisticated hardware and software technologies, including:
- Modern C++ and Linux
- Low-level hardware control
- Embedded systems
- Imaging and data acquisition
- Concurrency and inter-process communication
- Control systems
- User interfaces and software services
- Networking and distributed components
Key Responsibilities
- Define and evolve the software architecture for complex microscopy, imaging, and hardware-control systems.
- Translate product and technology roadmaps into target architectures and practical transition plans.
- Define system decomposition, component boundaries, interfaces, data flows, and integration contracts.
- Drive key quality attributes including performance, reliability, security, testability, and maintainability.
- Lead architecture and design reviews and document significant technical decisions.
- Guide solutions for concurrency, resource management, communication, failure recovery, and hardware interaction.
- Identify architectural risks and technical debt and drive appropriate modernization.
- Develop prototypes and performance measurements to validate architectural decisions.
- Collaborate across Software, Systems Engineering, Hardware, SQA, Applications, and Product Management.
- Remain hands-on with the codebase and microscopes and support resolution of complex cross-system issues.
- Provide technical guidance and raise software engineering standards across teams.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Extensive professional software development experience with expert-level modern C++.
- Proven experience defining and evolving architectures for complex, reliability-sensitive software products.
- Deep understanding of C++, including resource management, concurrency, memory model, error handling, and performance.
- Strong knowledge of modular design, APIs, interfaces, dependencies, compatibility, and versioning.
- Experience with Linux and low-level hardware integration.
- Experience with CMake or similar build systems, automated testing, CI/CD, and deployment.
- Ability to use testing, profiling, and technical analysis to validate architectural decisions.
- Strong ability to communicate architecture through documentation, diagrams, and technical reviews.
- Ability to influence technical decisions and build alignment across teams without formal authority.
Nice to Have
Experience with one or more of the following would be an advantage:
- Yocto, embedded Linux, and cross-compilation
- Scientific instrumentation, microscopy, imaging, robotics, or other hardware-intensive products
- Firmware, FPGA, or Zynq integration
- Control systems and real-time software
- gRPC, REST APIs, IPC, or distributed systems
- Qt/QML
- Dezyne, Coco, C4, or UML
- Software supply-chain security and SBOM
- Jenkins and modern C++ dependency management
Why Join Us?
You will have the opportunity to shape the software architecture behind sophisticated scientific instruments, where software interacts directly with precision hardware, imaging systems, and advanced physics.
This is a role where you can combine architecture and strategic technical direction with hands-on engineering—seeing your decisions implemented in real products used by scientists and engineers around the world.
What We Offer
- Flexible working hours to help you balance work and personal life.
- 25 days of vacation plus 5 sick days per year.
- Financial benefits, including an annual bonus, pension contribution, and access to life and health insurance at preferential rates.
- Discounted mobile plans for you and your family members.
- Free MultiSport card.
- Meal allowance and company canteen, with free fruit or vegetables every day.
- Modern working environment with relaxation zones, an on-site gym, outdoor sports area, and massages in the building.
- Open and friendly company culture, including our company rock band, sports teams, and other activities.
- Hackerspace equipped with a VR headset, recording studio for videos, music and podcasts, LEGO Mindstorms, 3D printer, Arduino, and much more.
