Software Development Engineer II, Alexa Shopping, Alexa Shopping - Core

Are you passionate about building innovative shopping experiences powered by voice and AI? The Alexa Shopping - Core team is looking for a Software Development Engineer to build the customer experiences that enable millions of customers to shop seamlessly through Alexa.

You'll work across retail and core Alexa frameworks and services, from product discovery to conversational interfaces to prompt tuning, designing and shipping features end-to-end. We're investing heavily in LLM-powered and agentic AI shopping experiences, and you'll be building at the intersection of Generative AI, voice, and retail at scale. This is a high-visibility role where your work ships to customers daily.

Key job responsibilities
- Design and build end-to-end features that bring retail shopping experiences to Alexa, working across retail tech stacks, Alexa services, and LLM-powered conversational interfaces
- Develop and iterate on GenAI and agentic AI capabilities, including prompt engineering and tuning for customer-facing shopping experiences
- Own your services from design through production, writing clean, maintainable code and driving engineering best practices through code reviews
- Collaborate with product managers, applied scientists, and partner teams to define, build, and ship customer-facing features
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, participate in on-call rotations, and continuously improve operational health through automation and monitoring
- Experiment and move fast, balancing speed of delivery with long-term system quality

A day in the life
As an SDE on the Alexa Shopping - Core team, you'll spend most of your time writing code that shapes how customers shop through Alexa. On any given day, you might be building a new shopping experience, tuning prompts for conversational flows, or iterating on a GenAI-powered feature with an applied scientist. You'll collaborate closely with product managers and teammates on design approaches, ship frequently, and see your work in customers' hands quickly. You'll also contribute to operational health through on-call rotations, monitoring, and automation, shared across a small, supportive team.

The Alexa Shopping - Core team builds the customer experiences that let millions of customers shop through Alexa, from product discovery to purchase. We work across retail and Alexa frameworks, and we're actively building the next generation of conversational shopping powered by LLMs and agentic AI. Our engineers own their problem spaces end-to-end and have real autonomy to experiment and ship fast. We're a small team that invests in each other's growth through mentorship, design reviews, and a culture where everyone's voice shapes the product.

Basic Qualifications

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
