Lead Applications Development Engineer

Citi is looking for a Lead Applications Development Engineer in Consumer Operations Technology to drive the design, development, and delivery of enterprise-grade software systems within a high-performing technology team. In this senior role, you will shape application architecture, mentor engineering talent, and lead cross-functional delivery efforts that directly support Citi's technology and business goals. This is an opportunity to own complex technical challenges at scale and make a measurable impact across global technology operations.

 

Responsibilities

• Design and build application systems using Java, Spring Boot, Angular, Python, and Cloud technologies, ensuring solutions align to established architecture standards.
• Lead end-to-end systems analysis across complex business and technology domains, identifying enhancements that enable new products and process improvements.
• Develop and enforce engineering standards for coding, testing, debugging, and implementation across the development lifecycle.
• Collaborate with multiple technology and business teams to integrate functions effectively and deliver against shared goals.
• Solve high-impact technical problems by evaluating complex system processes, business workflows, and industry practices to deliver innovative solutions.
• Coach and guide mid-level developers and analysts, distributing work appropriately and supporting their technical growth.
• Evaluate technology and business decisions through a risk-aware lens, ensuring solutions meet regulatory, compliance, and ethical standards.

 

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 6 to 10 years of hands-on experience in applications development or systems analysis, with a track record of delivering production-grade software.
• Deep expertise in at least one core area of applications development, with the ability to act as a subject matter authority for the team.
• Proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, Angular, Python, or Cloud platforms, applied in the context of enterprise system design and delivery.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and deliver technology projects from inception through implementation.
• Strong systems analysis skills, with experience translating complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Clear and precise communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts effectively to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
• Ability to manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality and delivery timelines.

 

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with AI/ML frameworks or integrating machine learning capabilities into enterprise applications.
• Familiarity with microservices architecture and cloud-native design patterns.
• Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
