From the beginning, Genentech has been a team of highly dedicated, passionate individuals. We are a place where people are united around a single purpose and an ambitious vision. Together, we aspire to deliver ever better health outcomes for patients while lowering overall healthcare costs. Our goal is to compel the customer to act on behalf of their patients while showing great commitment to the rare disease community, whose support is key.  Utilizing innovative methods to identify patients who may benefit from treatment, we must take a highly strategic approach to patient access while assisting patients and their caregivers to navigate the healthcare system.

Overview

The Director, Strategic Change Leadership Lead, is a key member of the Strategy & Activation team, working across Commercial, Medical, and Government Affairs (CMG). This role drives the successful adoption of strategic initiatives and organizational capabilities by applying deep expertise in change leadership, organizational effectiveness, and team effectiveness.

As a trusted advisor to senior leadership, you will shape and execute change strategies that enable cross-functional alignment, innovation, and sustainable performance. You’ll foster a culture of resilience, adaptability, and continuous improvement, ensuring that change becomes a lasting competitive advantage.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy Development & Execution

  • Serve as a strategic advisor and thought leader, leveraging a comprehensive understanding of the Commercial, Medical, and Government Affairs (CMG) functions to guide both transformational and incremental change.
  • Balance strategic partnership with hands-on execution, guiding teams through both the design and delivery of change.
  • Conduct diagnostic assessments to identify change readiness, gaps, and opportunities, using these insights to develop, adapt, and implement strategic change management frameworks tailored to CMG's needs.
  • Proactively identify potential risks, resistance points, and systemic patterns that may impact change initiatives across the CMG teams, developing targeted mitigation strategies to drive breakthrough results and long-term sustainability.

Change Capability & Culture Activation

  • Lead the activation of CMG-wide strategic initiatives that embed shared mindsets and behaviors, ensuring adoption and sustained impact with senior leadership support.
  • Embed core behavior shifts that bring CMG’s Value to life by cultivating the Change Leadership Capabilities curriculum — focused on:
    • Role Modeling Change (responsibility and accountability, decision making, shifting from “me” to “we”)
    • Leading Change (creating psychological safety, managing productive conflict, addressing resistance)
    • Communicating Change (connecting hearts and minds, leveraging change accelerators).
  • Coach senior and people leaders to strengthen these capabilities and lead change with confidence.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior leaders, department heads, and key stakeholders across the CMG teams to ensure alignment and buy-in for change initiatives.
  • Actively partner with Learning & Skill Development (L&SD), People & Culture (P&C), and Communications partners to manage the sequence and flow of information, training, and accountability.
  • Leverage an indirect network of change champions across the organization to scale change actions and narratives and support change adoption and sustainability.

Implementation and Monitoring

  • Monitor the effectiveness of change management initiatives, track progress against metrics, and provide regular updates to senior leadership, demonstrating business impact.
  • Establish mechanisms for continuous improvement, capturing lessons learned, feedback, and data-driven insights to refine approaches and enhance future change initiatives.

Who You Are

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in organizational development, strategic initiative execution, transformation programs, or business operations within a complex, matrixed environment, with a strong emphasis on leading large-scale organizational change.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Organizational Development, Organizational Psychology, or a related field.
  • Deep expertise in organizational change management, championing change in a positive way with demonstrated experience in leading cross-functional cultural initiatives from strategy to implementation.
  • Proven track record of sustained organizational impact and successfully executing change management strategies in complex and rapidly changing environments.
  • Proficient in coaching senior leadership teams and demonstrated expertise and experience in team coaching or systemic practice (e.g., Certified Coach, Systemic or Team Coach preferred).
  • Systems thinker who understands the importance of change across people, process, technology, and culture.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning for customer-centric solutions.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and build consensus at all levels of the organization.
  • Master’s degree or professional certification in Change Management (e.g., CCMP, Prosci ADKAR, Kotter's Change Management Model).
  • Experience in the Pharmaceutical, Biotech, or similar regulated industries is a plus.
