Residential Director, Academy of Math and Programming (AMP)

About the Position

We are looking for an experienced residential life professional to serve as Residential Director  for our Academy of Math and Programming (AMP) in New York City.

AMP is a residential program for recent high school graduates of diverse backgrounds who have experienced barriers to access and opportunity within advanced STEM education. 

Students spend five weeks studying mathematics, computer programming, data analysis, and game theory while building a close academic and residential community.

As Residential Director, you will live on site with students for the duration of the program and serve as a consistent adult presence outside the academic day. You will help create a safe, welcoming residential community, support students as they adjust to communal living, and respond calmly when concerns or interpersonal conflicts arise.

You will also work closely with the program’s guidance counselors, dean of students, instructors, and teaching assistants to ensure that students receive coordinated support across the classroom and dormitory. Additional responsibilities will include:

• Living in the student residence for the duration of the program, with assigned evening and weekend shifts and scheduled overnight on-call coverage
• Partnering with on-site security to support curfew policies and helping students follow quiet hours, study hours, and other residential expectations
• Conducting regular cleanliness checks of student rooms and common spaces, and reinforcing shared expectations for upkeep
• Monitoring students who stay in the residence because they are sick and unable to attend class
• Supporting daily check-ins and headcounts in coordination with the guidance counselor 
• Encouraging responsible behavior and helping students set healthy boundaries around socializing, sleep, and well-being
• Responding to student needs and escalating health, safety, or well-being concerns to the appropriate program staff
• Supporting supervision and logistics for evening and weekend activities

This is a temporary, full-time summer position with evening and weekend work and scheduled overnight on-call responsibilities. The program will run from late June through early August. About You

• Have experience working in residential education, student life, summer camps, boarding schools, college housing, or a similar setting
• Experienced with supporting older teenagers or young adults
• Mature, calm, and dependable, with sound judgment and clear personal boundaries
• Comfortable setting expectations, addressing routine conflict, and responding to unexpected situations
• A thoughtful communicator who works well with students, families, and program staff
• Able to handle sensitive student matters discreetly and escalate concerns appropriately
