This opening is for a Senior Scientist position in the translational Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics (tPKPD) department within the Development Sciences division in Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED) unit.


The focus of this position is to support the preclinical pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics  (PKPD) efforts to guide the design, delivery and development of biologics in the Genentech  pipeline. Core responsibilities include providing technical support for the PKPD assessment of  drug candidates and marketed products and working independently or under the direct  supervision of a Scientist. 

The Opportunity:

The responsibilities of this Senior Scientist position will :

  • Design, conduct, analyze and interpret all in vitro and in vivo ADME and PKPD studies  that are necessary to understand the pharmacology of drug candidates in animals and  predict their behavior in humans 

  • Prepare summary tables and reports for non-clinical studies; may prepare documents  for regulatory agencies, including INDs and BLAs under the supervision of a Scientist 

  • Present data at project teams and department meetings and conferences as appropriate 

  • Publish innovative PKPD focused research in high quality scientific, technical or medical  journals. 

  • Manage an active laboratory program that supports basic research in PKPD and also  supports pipeline projects 

  • Collaborate with other departments such as Clinical Pharmacology, Research,  Bioanalytical Sciences, Safety Assessment, PD Biomarker/OMNI, Antibody Engineering,  Non-clinical Biostatistics, Regulatory Affairs, Technical Development, and others

  • Participate in compliance and safety related activities. Perform other duties, as assigned 

Who You Are:

  • Ph.D., or M.D., or PharmD degree or equivalent curriculum in pharmacology, pharmaceutical science, biology, bioengineering, chemistry, physiology or related disciplines is required (experience is specific to job level). Persons without a formal degree who have comparable depth and breadth of training and experience (gained at Genentech or  elsewhere), and who meet job-specific criteria, are eligible for consideration

  • 1-2 years of relevant industry experience in translational PKPD/pharmacology or equivalent Postdoctoral experience is preferred

  • Outstanding record of accomplishment in his/her field as evidenced by his/her co authored publications, patents, internal reports and/or regulatory filings.

  • Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques and safety is required; Regular GLP and laboratory safety training is required

  • Experience in quantitative PKPD software (e.g., WinNonlin, NONMEM, ADAPT II,  Matlab, Simbiology, R)  

  • Demonstrated independent thought and creativity in relevant discipline; independently  designs, carries out, analyzes, interprets, and documents studies and experiments.

  • Good communication skills, independently presents at department and project team meeting

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of San Franscico, CA is $ 120,700 – $224,100Annual.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
