Principal System Development Engineer, FireTV 3P

The Amazon Devices team designs and engineers high-profile consumer electronics, including the best-selling Kindle family of products. We have produced game changing devices like Fire TV and Amazon Echo. What will you help us create?

Fire TV software and services technologies are enjoyed by millions of customers over the world. FTV-3P team is focused on launching 3P FTVs (Smart Connected TVs) at scale. We do this by enabling global ODMs/OEMs to launch full portfolio of FTVs (entry level, mid-level, premium), providing full stack solutions, along with enterprise tools, services and suites to enable the same.

Key job responsibilities
The ideal candidate has current and extensive experience developing and building Android and Linux based systems and applications. The candidate understands what the limitations of the platform are and can design and implement additional services or help optimize existing ones to meet the product requirements. Partners closely with ODM/OEMs to launch FTV powered TVs. This includes developing new bespoke features basis requests from Tier1 partners, enabling partner customizations of differentiated deep panel/hw coupled features, system performance tuning/optimization and integration of their proprietary features. The scope includes manufacturing and related diagnostic support as well as post launch support across field diagnostics, monitoring and supply-chain oriented running product changes and migrations.

The ideal candidate:
• Has in-depth expertise working with Android and Linux systems and applications
• In-depth knowledge and experience with kernel development
• Experience on bootloader and device drivers development and enjoy working on hardware directly
• Enjoys working side by side with partners, colleagues and teams on difficult problems
• Is highly effective and thrives in a dynamic environment with multiple, changing priorities
• Knows what is important when releasing software to developers and has been through the process from start to finish
• Is comfortable with proactive outward communication and technical leadership and never shies away from a challenge

Basic Qualifications

- 10+ years of planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer software experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
- Knowledge of infrastructure automation delivered through the software development lifecycle in an API-enabled environment, including agile development, software architecture/patterns, and modern cloud services
- Knowledge of the tools of the trade, including a variety of modern programming languages (Rust, Java, C/C++), and a solid understanding of the Linux operating system
- Experience in planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer software
- Experience delivering large-scale infrastructure products that support Tier-1 mission critical services with a focus on privacy, security, availability, and efficiency

Preferred Qualifications

- 5+ years of managing managers experience
- 10+ years of direct work with cloud hosting technologies (AWS, Azure, etc.) experience
- Experience directly working with cloud hosting technologies (AWS, Azure, etc.)
- Experience in managing managers
- Experience with AWS platforms, services, and design patterns
- Experience with distributed systems at scale

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
