Summary
The VideoApps QA team is responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of Apple's second-party video editing applications, including Final Cut Pro for iPad and related products. As a Software Developer in Test, you will be at the intersection of engineering and quality assurance, designing and building the automated test infrastructure that powers our team's ability to ship world-class video software. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape how modern automation and AI/ML-driven workflows are adopted across the team.
Description
In this role, you will design, implement, and execute automated test suites and custom tooling in Swift and Python, covering everything from API workflows to end-to-end video application scenarios. You will collaborate closely with software engineers and product teams to identify quality gaps early in the development lifecycle, driving bug isolation and regression coverage across complex video editing features. Beyond your own technical contributions, you will mentor manual QA engineers and help scale team-wide automation capabilities as the organization evolves its testing practices.
Responsibilities
Design and implement scalable automated test frameworks and custom tooling in Swift and Python for FCP for iPad and related video applications
Build and maintain test coverage for API-related workflows, ensuring reliability across critical integration points
Execute regression, functional, and exploratory testing cycles, isolating and documenting defects with precision and reproducibility
Partner with software engineers and product managers throughout the development lifecycle to define testability requirements and quality exit criteria
Mentor manual QA engineers on automation best practices, elevating the team's overall technical capabilities
Evaluate and integrate AI/ML-driven testing approaches to improve test efficiency and coverage breadth
Manage multiple concurrent testing efforts and deliver results on tight release schedules without sacrificing quality
Contribute to QA process improvements, documentation, and standards that scale across the broader VideoApps organization
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of industry experience in software quality assurance or quality engineering roles
3+ years coding in Swift and/or Python in a professional testing or software development context
2+ years testing API-related workflows, including validating request/response contracts and integration behaviors
Strong knowledge of the software development lifecycle, testing methodologies, QA terminology, and established QA processes
Demonstrated ability to detect, isolate, and regression-test defects across complex, customer-facing software applications
Track record of delivering high-quality test coverage while balancing multiple workstreams and meeting strict release deadlines
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or we may consider an equivalent industry experience
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with video technologies, codecs, or media processing pipelines as they relate to software quality
Hands-on experience building end-to-end automation frameworks in both Swift and Python within a CI/CD environment
Proven experience mentoring or coaching QA engineers and elevating team-wide technical capabilities
Skilled in applying AI/ML-driven approaches to test generation, failure analysis, or coverage optimization
Experience testing creative or professional media applications with complex, stateful user workflows
