Microsoft has an exciting opportunity for a Software Engineer II in the Cloud+AI Azure Data team. As part of a core product engineering group, you will develop features, improvements, enhancements, and bugfixes within Azure Data products which are used by Microsoft’s worldwide customer base. Within Azure Data, the usage billing team builds the next-generation data platform for reliable ingestion, aggregation and processing of usage emitted at high volume by Microsoft. This is a mission critical service built for scale, compliance and data guarantees also leveraging our world class Azure Data real time messaging, streaming and analytics services to ensure critical billing usage data to flow into revenue for Microsoft..
In this role, Software Engineer II, you will have the opportunity to work with engineers who enable a broad set of Azure services to be consumed by internal and external customers in highly secured and regulated industries. The systems and software you build will be required to meet the security policy and assurance requirements of both public and private sector customers.

Responsibilities
Improve test coverage, implement integration tests, and address issues to enhance service reliability and maintainability.
Automate production and deployment processes, running code in non-production environments to ensure functionality.
Uphold compliance with security, privacy, safety, and accessibility standards, and demonstrate product compliance.
Integrate telemetry and data analytics to monitor system health, drive product refinement, and inform engineering decisions.
Maintain live service operations, respond promptly to incidents, and implement solutions to complex issues as they arise.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement, sharing postmortem insights with the team.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.

Security Clearance Requirements: Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or
government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- The successful candidate must have an active U.S. Government Top Secret Clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) based on a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with Polygraph. Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required pre-offer and post-hire for this role. Failure to maintain or obtain the appropriate U.S. Government clearance and/or customer screening requirements may result in employment action up to and including termination.
- Clearance Verification: This position requires successful verification of the stated security
- clearance to meet federal government customer requirements. You will be asked to provide clearance verification information prior to an offer of employment.
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
- Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of U.S. citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local United States government agency customer and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport, or other approved documents, or verified US government Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or Engineering or Mathematics or Physics or IT technical discipline
- Experience coordinating resources across diverse teams to restore service and maintain SLA’s, ITIL certification is preferred.
- Ability to analyze network and performance monitor traces, application performance problems, and windows application and crash-dump.
- Ability to conceptualize a distributed service, it’s dependencies and the transactional flow when troubleshooting across network, application, caching, queuing, load-balancing, storage and distributed services layers.
- High enthusiasm, integrity, ingenuity, results-orientation, self-motivation, and resourcefulness in a fast-paced competitive environment.
- Deep desire to work collaboratively, solve problems with groups, find win/win solutions and celebrate successes.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year.
