Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a former Operations leader who has successfully managed large, complex teams within a global capital markets environment and can leverage that experience to provide credible challenge, strategic guidance, and risk advisory support across State Street Markets.

The successful candidate will have held senior managerial positions in back-office or post-trade operations and will bring deep knowledge of end-to-end trading and financing processes. Direct exposure to Foreign Exchange, Securities Lending, Secured financing is strongly preferred. This individual will combine operational credibility with sound risk judgment and an ability to influence executives, operational leaders, and control partners across regions and functions.

The role will be based in India and co-located with a significant concentration of Markets Operations personnel. This proximity is intended to deepen day-to-day engagement with operational teams, strengthen first-line challenge, improve early identification and escalation of emerging risks, and align risk advisory more closely with operational execution.

Why This Role Is Important to Us

State Street Markets supports institutional clients through foreign exchange, securities lending, securitized financing and multi-asset class trading and related capital markets activities. The scale and complexity of these businesses require a strong, forward-looking control environment across the operational processes that support the full trade lifecycle.

As Managing Director, Markets Operations Risk Advisory, you will serve as the principal Business Risk Management advisor to Markets Operations globally. You will partner with senior Operations and business leaders to ensure material risks are understood, controls remain effective and sustainable, significant events are escalated appropriately, and operational change is implemented with the right risk and control considerations. You will also help advance a more proactive, data-driven, and exception-based approach to first-line risk management.

As a Markets Operations Risk Advisory, Managing Director you will -

Executive Leadership and Strategic Partnership

  • Act as the principal Business Risk Management representative and senior risk advisor for Markets Operations globally.

  • Advise senior business leaders on operational risk, control effectiveness, strategic change, and resiliency.

  • Partner with Front Office, Operations, Technology, and control-function leaders to identify emerging risks, challenge business and operating decisions, and strengthen controls across the trade lifecycle.

  • Provide constructive and credible challenge to business decisions, transformation programs, new or changing activities, and management assessments of risk.

  • Lead executive discussions concerning significant operational events, control weaknesses, remediation priorities, and emerging risk themes.

  • Represent Business Risk Management in relevant risk governance forums.

  • Drive consistent risk management expectations and practices across global Markets Operations locations.

Markets Operations Risk Advisory and Control Oversight

  • Provide risk advisory coverage across operational processes supporting Foreign Exchange, and Financing and Portfolio Solutions businesses.

  • Assess risks and controls across the end-to-end trade lifecycle, including pre-trade activities supported by the Client Onboarding and Business Management function, trade capture and validation, confirmations, settlement, collateral and margin operations, reconciliations, cash processing, asset servicing, client reporting, and exception management.

  • Provide risk advisory and credible challenge over client onboarding processes, including governance, operational readiness, data quality, system setup, control execution, and escalation of material risks or exceptions.

  • Challenge the design, execution, and sustainability of preventive, detective, and compensating controls across critical operational workflows.

  • Partner with Operations leadership to identify control gaps, manual-process dependencies, capacity constraints, data-quality concerns, and operational vulnerabilities before they result in material events.

  • Promote scalable processes, workflow automation, data-driven monitoring, leading indicators, and exception-based management to reduce operational risk and human error.

  • Provide risk input into operating model changes, technology implementations, process migrations, product launches, outsourcing arrangements, and other strategic initiatives.

Incident, Issue, and Remediation Management

  • Promote timely identification, escalation, investigation, and governance of operational incidents, near misses, losses, and control failures.

  • Provide senior challenge of impact assessments, root cause analyses, corrective actions, issue ratings, and target dates.

  • Ensure remediation plans address underlying causes, deliver measurable risk reduction, and include appropriate interim or compensating controls where necessary.

  • Monitor significant issues through closure and challenge whether corrective actions are sustainable and operating as intended.

  • Identify cross-business themes and use lessons learned to strengthen controls beyond the immediate event or process.

Risk Framework and Governance

  • Provide oversight and challenge across first-line risk programs, including Risk and Control Self-Assessments, control inventories, Key Risk Indicators, operational risk events, issue management, operational resilience, third-party risk, and risk change management.

  • Use management information, risk metrics, event data, assurance results, and thematic analysis to identify areas requiring management attention.

  • Lead the monthly Markets Operations Risk Steering Committee, ensuring transparent reporting, effective management challenge, and timely escalation of material risks, control performance, significant incidents, remediation progress, and emerging concerns.

  • Help ensure adherence to applicable first-line policies, standards, governance requirements, and escalation protocols.

Regulatory, Audit, and Assurance Leadership

  • Lead first-line risk advisory engagement supporting regulatory examinations, internal audits, independent assurance reviews, and control testing involving Markets Operations.

  • Challenge the quality, completeness, and sustainability of management responses and remediation plans arising from findings or observations.

  • Assess whether proposed corrective actions address root causes and appropriately reduce residual operational risk.

  • Support ongoing examination and audit readiness, including clear evidence of ownership, governance, control execution, and sustained remediation.

  • Partner with Compliance, Enterprise Risk Management, Internal Audit, Legal, and other control functions while maintaining clear first-line accountability.

People and Organizational Leadership

  • Lead, develop, and retain a high-performing team of Business Risk Advisors and operational subject matter experts.

  • Set clear priorities, standards, and accountabilities while creating an inclusive environment that encourages constructive challenge and escalation.
