DESCRIPTION:
As a Systems Administrator III at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you'll maintain and optimize our critical infrastructure and applications. You'll join a collaborative team dedicated to supporting our mission of enabling customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. In this position, you'll manage complex enterprise systems, implement effective solutions, and ensure maximum system performance and reliability. Working with advanced technologies across cloud and on-premises environments, you'll have opportunities to drive automation, improve processes, and contribute to our digital transformation initiatives.

REQUIREMENTS:

Experienced Systems Operations and Virtualization professional with expertise in VMware vSphere, vCenter, vSAN, Hyper-V, Windows Server, infrastructure operations, and SysOps automation. Skilled in managing virtual environments, capacity and performance monitoring, server lifecycle activities, patching automation, service-account integrations, and operational support. Strong focus on improving reliability, reducing manual effort, and delivering standardized automation solutions across enterprise infrastructure.


 

System Administrator III – Key Responsibilities

  • Manage enterprise infrastructure across on-premises, VMware, Windows, and cloud environments.
  • Handle Incidents, Major Incidents, Problems, Tasks, and Changes following ITIL processes and SLA requirements.
  • Administer and troubleshoot VMware ESXi, vCenter, vSAN, and VxRail environments.
  • Manage Windows Server 2012/2016/2019/2022, including provisioning, patching, upgrades, optimization, and decommissioning.
  • Plan and execute P2V/V2V migrations, infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and technology refreshes.
  • Monitor CPU, memory, storage, virtualization, and cloud capacity, identify bottlenecks, and forecast future requirements.
  • Support Azure and/or AWS, including hybrid infrastructure, migrations, optimization, governance, security, and reliability.
  • Automate operational activities using PowerShell/Python, including provisioning, health checks, patching, compliance, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Apply Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation practices to reduce manual effort.
  • Manage Windows patching, vulnerability remediation, compliance tracking, exceptions, and reporting.
  • Support monitoring, logging, alerting, backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and high availability.
  • Maintain operational dashboards, documentation, runbooks, knowledge articles, and performance reports.
  • Act as a technical escalation point, lead complex infrastructure activities, and support Major Incident recovery.
  • Collaborate with architects, security, operations, and global technology teams on infrastructure improvements.
  • Mentor junior/mid-level engineers and conduct technical knowledge-sharing sessions.

Key Requirements

  • 8+ years of hands-on enterprise infrastructure/system engineering experience.
  • Strong expertise in VMware ESXi, vCenter, vSAN, and VxRail.
  • Advanced Windows Server administration experience.
  • Hands-on exposure to Azure and/or AWS.
  • Strong knowledge of capacity planning, performance management, and infrastructure optimization.
  • Strong PowerShell/Python scripting and automation skills.
  • Understanding of IaC and infrastructure automation.
  • Strong knowledge of ITIL Incident, Major Incident, Change, and Problem Management.
  • Experience with P2V/V2V migrations and enterprise patch management.
  • Knowledge of monitoring, compliance, backup, DR, and high availability.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Proven ability to lead technical activities, mentor engineers, and work with global teams.
  • Flexible to support APAC/EMEA hours, maintenance windows, Major Incidents, and 24x7 on-call rotation.
