Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. The Data Processing Unit (DPU) team brings together state-of-the-art software and hardware expertise to create a highly programmable and high-performance ASIC with the capability to efficiently handle large data streams. Thanks to its integrated design, this solution empowers teams to operate with increased agility and deliver significantly superior performance compared to CPU-based alternatives. 

 

As a manager for tools & build within the Data Processing Unit (DPU) group, you will be leading a team that provides services to multiple other teams within our organization. Your role will require you to leverage your strong planning, technical, and inter-group relationship management skills. You will be responsible for strategic planning, managing relationships across teams, and understanding the technical aspects of the services provided by your team. Your ability to set and meet aggressive deadlines, manage and develop high performing teams, and anticipate and proactively mitigate potential issues will be key to your success. Your excellent communication skills will be essential in effectively communicating your team’s plans, expectations, and performance metrics across all levels of the organization. We are seeking a Software Engineering Manager - Build and Tools to join the team.

Responsibilities

 

  • Own the strategy and roadmap for the DPU developer productivity infrastructure 

  • Drive availability and readiness of pre-silicon and early-silicon development environments 

  • Lead delivery and operational excellence of the DPU Tools and Build ecosystem 

  • Build strong partnerships across Microsoft engineering organizations 

  • Establish and track measurable productivity goals such as build latency, test throughput, onboarding time 



Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience. 

 

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements is required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screening:  

Microsoft Cloud Background Check. This position is required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.  

 

Preferred Qualifications:

3+ years of people management experience, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and organization planning 

Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional programs involving build systems, CI/CD pipelines, test infrastructure 

Experience developing and executing multi-year technical roadmaps, balancing near-term delivery commitments with long-term infrastructure investments 

Strong technical depth in software engineering practices, distributed systems, cloud platforms, automation 

Experience with Azure services, DevOps platforms 



Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
