ROLE SUMMARY
We are seeking a Senior Director, Business Technology Strategy to serve as the primary liaison between Pfizer’s business divisions and Digital, strategically aligning divisional technology needs to our eight Digital Core Platforms and digital standards. This leader will oversee a team of Director-level Technical Specialists and ensure that divisional programs and projects reinforce — rather than diverge from — the enterprise platform strategy.
The role is accountable for connecting business-division priorities with Pfizer’s platform and architecture standards, ensuring divisional programs and projects reuse shared capabilities and adhere to digital standards. Working closely with senior business and Digital leaders, this leader sets divisional technology direction, resolves cross-division trade-offs, and ensures the right technical specialists are aligned to the most important divisional outcomes.
This position requires a senior leader with strong business partnership, communication, and organizational skills who can operate at the intersection of business strategy, technology strategy, platform alignment, and governance. The Senior Director will create clarity from complexity, chair the Architecture Review Board, develop senior technical talent, and establish practical direction that helps Pfizer’s divisions deliver faster, safer, and more reusable digital capabilities at global scale.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Business Division Liaison: Serve as the primary liaison between the business divisions and Digital, understanding divisional priorities and translating them into aligned technology direction and platform adoption.
- Platform and Standards Alignment: Strategically align divisional technology needs, programs, and projects to the eight Digital Core Platforms and Pfizer’s digital standards, driving reuse, consistency, and clean integration rather than divergent divisional solutions.
- Divisional Program and Project Alignment: Ensure key divisional programs and projects are strategically aligned to enterprise platforms and standards from the outset, translating divisional needs into practical technology choices, delivery models, and measurable outcomes.
- Technical Specialist Team Leadership: Oversee, lead, and develop a team of Director-level Technical Specialists, setting direction, balancing coverage across divisions, and ensuring consistent quality and alignment to enterprise standards.
- Architecture Review Board Leadership: Play a leading role in the Architecture Review Board (ARB), chairing or co-leading reviews, upholding digital and architecture standards, and ensuring major divisional technology decisions are sound, compliant, and aligned to the enterprise platform strategy.
- Leadership, Communication, and Organization: Provide clear leadership and set direction with strong, structured communication; organize and coordinate work across many divisions, specialists, and stakeholders; and build a high-performing, inclusive team culture of accountability and continuous learning.
- Governance and Delivery Assurance: Establish and uphold expectations for digital standards, reliability, security, documentation, and operational excellence across divisional technology, and provide the governance and reporting that keep senior leaders informed and the portfolio aligned.
ROLE BEHAVIOURS
- Don't Lose Your Curiosity: Fosters a culture of curiosity and continuous learning across the divisions and technical specialist team; sponsors experimentation and cross-division learning; brings emerging technologies and outside-in perspectives into divisional technology direction
- Set an example for your team: Consistently demonstrate a clear vision, positive energy, and exemplary leadership that motivate the technical specialist team and divisional stakeholders to strive for their highest potential
- Own the Outcome: Sets clear accountability standards focused on business impact and platform alignment; takes end-to-end ownership of divisional technology outcomes; drives quality and delivery commitments in the AI era
- Connect Across Disciplines: Connects work across divisions, specialists, platforms, and business domains; inspires holistic solutions and reuse; translates specialized knowledge into accessible explanations; thinks like a business insider
- Communicate with Precision: Communicates with exceptional clarity and structure; frames trade-offs and priorities crisply; tailors the message from senior business leaders to engineers; drives clarity and alignment as a core value across the divisions
- Think in Systems: Shapes systems design and architecture practices across the divisions; connects divisional programs into a coherent whole; anticipates dependencies and risks; influences cross-team architecture decisions through the Architecture Review Board; creates clarity from complexity
