Job Description: Accounting, Reconciliation, and Proofing Senior Lead – AVP (C12)

Role Overview

The Accounting, Reconciliation, and Proofing Senior Lead – Assistant Vice President (AVP / C12) is a senior operational leadership position within North America (NAM) Commercial Card Operations. This role is responsible for governing the financial integrity, balance sheet control, and accounting accuracy of complex payment and cash management transactions.

As a Senior Lead, the successful candidate will champion Citi’s Leadership Principles (We Take Ownership, We Deliver with Pride, We Succeed Together), acting as a key bridge between Operations, Finance, Risk, and Technology. The primary objective of this role is to lead a pristine risk and control environment, drive process modernization (including automation and "Change-the-Bank" initiatives), and mentor a team of senior analysts to ensure seamless, zero-defect operational delivery that directly enhances the downstream client experience.

Key Responsibilities

1. Accounting Governance & Manual Journal Entry Control (We Take Ownership)

  • Journal Entry Oversight: Govern and validate the recording of manual journal entries within the core accounting engine, ensuring absolute accuracy, proper substantiation, and strict adherence to corporate accounting policies.
  • Financial Data Integrity: Perform and oversee key balance sheet controls, proofing processes, and ledger-to-subledger reconciliations to guarantee the integrity of financial reporting.
  • Policy Compliance: Ensure all accounting practices comply with US GAAP, local regulatory standards, and internal financial control frameworks.
  • Digital Transformation: Serve as the operational Subject Matter Expert (SME) on critical "Change-the-Bank" projects, driving the migration from legacy systems to modernized platforms.
  • Automation & Tooling: Leverage advanced tools (e.gSmart Solution robotics, and advanced analytics) to automate manual reconciliation and proofing workflows, reducing operational cycle times.
  • UAT & Release Sign-Off: Lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities, defining test cases, coordinating with Technology partners, and issuing final operational sign-offs to authorize system releases.

2. Advanced Reconciliation & Exception Management (We Deliver with Pride)

  • Complex Exception Resolution: Lead the end-to-end investigation, tracking, and resolution of complex, high-value, or aged reconciliation exceptions across payment and cash management workflows.
  • Root-Cause Analysis: Conduct deep-dive diagnostic reviews of recurring exceptions. Partner with Product and Technology teams to implement systemic fixes, reducing manual touchpoints and preventing future breaks.
  • Classification Controls: Execute robust classification and aging controls to validate final operational outputs, protecting the firm from financial loss and reputational risk.

3. Pristine Risk Mitigation & Control Management (We Take Ownership)

  • Audit-Ready Environment: Establish and maintain an audit-ready control environment. Act as the primary point of contact for internal audits, external regulatory exams, and compliance reviews.
  • MCA & KRI Governance: Proactively identify control deficiencies and operational gaps. Lead the design, execution, and testing of Manager’s Control Assessments (MCA) and monitor Key Risk Indicators (KRIs).
  • Issue Remediation: Own the self-identification of control gaps and lead the end-to-end lifecycle of Corrective Action Plans (CAPs), ensuring sustainable and timely remediation.
  • Escalation & Transparency: Foster a transparent "speak-up" culture, ensuring that operational near-misses, control breaks, or financial anomalies are escalated and resolved with urgency.

4. 5. Leadership, Mentorship & Stakeholder Collaboration (We Succeed Together)

  • Team Mentorship: Provide formal and informal guidance, continuous coaching, and technical training to senior analysts and junior colleagues, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build and maintain strategic partnerships with Finance, Risk, Technology, Product, and Business units to address complex operational challenges and execute sustainable process improvements.
  • Influence & Advisory: Influence key operational decisions by providing expert advice, counsel, and analytical insights to senior management and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Bachelor’s degree/University degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience required.
