Location: Dreieich / Remote, Germany. Territory: Southern Germany (Bavaria and Baden Wuertemberg).
Travel: Approximately 50%.

We are looking for an Account Manager (m/f/d), Materials & Surface Analysis to drive profitable growth across assigned customers and markets in Southern Germany.

This is a highly dynamic sales role with strong connections to technical, marketing, service and other commercial functions. You will develop strategic customer relationships, understand customer priorities and position Thermo Fisher Scientific solutions to address their scientific and business needs.

The portfolio includes Electron Microscopy (EM), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), software, services and related analytical workflows. These core technologies are complemented by adjacent techniques such as Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS), Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD), Raman Spectroscopy, Ion Scattering Spectroscopy (ISS), Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS), and others.

As part of our Sales and Service organization, you will identify and understand customer needs, develop your market and use your technical expertise and product knowledge to build effective sales strategies. You will create customer presentations, respond to tenders, recommend suitable product solutions and drive opportunities through to successful closure.

Using your technical knowledge and strong interpersonal skills, you will engage effectively with both prospective and existing customers. You will own the full sales cycle—from lead generation and opportunity development through negotiation and closure.

Success in this role requires close collaboration with a broad network of colleagues, including our NanoPort demonstration facilities, product specialists, marketing professionals, fellow Account Managers, service teams and other business functions.

What to expect:

  • Develop and strengthen strategic relationships with assigned customers and markets.
  • Understand customer priorities and position Thermo Fisher Scientific solutions to create measurable value.
  • Own and manage the complete sales cycle from lead identification through closure.
  • Identify customer needs, market trends and new business opportunities.
  • Apply technical expertise and product knowledge to develop effective sales strategies.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling customer presentations and commercial proposals.
  • Respond to tenders and recommend the most appropriate product and workflow solutions.
  • Build and maintain a healthy opportunity pipeline and accurate sales forecast.
  • Collaborate closely with NanoPort colleagues, product specialists, marketing, service teams, peer Account Managers and other business functions.
  • Maintain strong CRM and commercial discipline throughout the sales process.
  • Travel approximately 50% within the assigned territory.

Keys to Success:
Education

  • Typically, an M.Sc. degree or higher in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics or a related scientific or technical field.

Experience

  • Demonstrated familiarity with XPS, electron microscopy, spectroscopy, imaging or related analytical instrumentation is required.
  • Previous client-facing commercial experience is required.
  • Experience working successfully within a matrix organization, with responsibility for clear and effective communication across teams, is highly valuable.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Business-fluent German is required.
  • Business-fluent English is required.
  • Additional languages are welcome but not essential.
  • Proactive, self-motivated and comfortable taking ownership.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an openness to working across cultures and diverse teams.
  • Confident communicator in customer meetings, presentations and public-speaking settings.
  • Clear, open and effective communication style.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong internal and external customer relationships.
  • Ability to articulate how our technologies support materials science applications and create value for customers.
  • Strong ability to prioritize requirements and meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Commitment to continuously developing commercial skills and improving sales processes.
  • Strong CRM discipline and willingness to work within established business processes.
