About the role
Original posting provided by amazon
As a Manager III, Technology Operations Engineering on the Data Center Construction team, you will lead, mentor, and coach a team of Construction Managers delivering data center capacity across a regional portfolio. You will own the construction lifecycle from pre-construction through procurement to onsite execution, driving safety, cost, quality, and schedule performance. This role requires approximately 50% travel to construction sites across your region, giving you direct visibility into the work your team delivers. This position requires that the candidate selected be a US Citizen.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead, hire, and develop a team of Construction Managers and Project Engineers, providing both strategic direction and tactical coaching to build a high-performing, inclusive team.
- Own regional construction program delivery, defining metrics and establishing workflows that drive safety, cost, quality, and schedule performance across multiple concurrent data center projects.
- Partner with Finance, Business Development, and cross-functional teams to develop capital budgets, coordinate land and facility acquisition, and align construction priorities with capacity demand.
- Identify risks and areas of opportunity across the construction lifecycle, making data-driven trade-offs between short-term delivery needs and long-term program improvements.
- Establish process improvement mechanisms that reduce cost and duration while maintaining quality and reliability standards for complex electrical and mechanical systems.
A day in the life
Your morning may start with a site visit to review construction progress alongside your Construction Managers, walking through mechanical and electrical installations and addressing safety or quality items in real time. Back at your desk, you shift into reviewing regional delivery metrics, joining planning calls with Finance and Business Development partners, and coaching a team member through a complex vendor negotiation. You regularly connect with peer managers and leadership to align priorities, share best practices, and ensure your regional program stays on track against capacity goals.
