About the role
Original posting provided by amazon
As a Lab Engineer II, you will operate and maintain test fixtures, lab equipment, and motion capture systems while also performing robot repairs to keep test uptime high. As the team grows, you will have the opportunity to mentor new technicians and associates, and potentially step into a lab manager role. If you are energized by working with robotics and automation hardware, solving hands-on problems, and helping a small team grow, we want to hear from you.
Key job responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot test environments, fixtures, and lab equipment to ensure high availability and uptime for prototype development and verification and validation efforts.
- Perform robot repairs and hardware rework to maintain test readiness, diagnosing root causes and implementing corrective actions efficiently.
- Build, test, analyze, and validate robotic prototypes and subsystems using tools such as motion capture systems, test fixtures, and standard lab instrumentation.
- Deliver high-quality engineering artifacts including test reports, work instructions, and lessons-learned documents that support team knowledge and reproducibility.
- Assess lab operations proactively, identify process improvements, and lead initiatives that simplify workflows and remove bottlenecks as new lab spaces come online.
A day in the life
You might start your morning running a motion capture session to validate robot movement, then pivot to repairing a prototype that failed during an overnight test run. After documenting your findings and updating test records, you could spend the afternoon setting up a newly delivered test fixture and calibrating equipment in one of our expanding lab spaces. You will partner closely with hardware and software test engineers to keep verification activities on track, and as the lab team scales you will help onboard and guide new team members.
About the team
We are a small, collaborative group of hardware and software test engineers, and these Lab Engineer II roles will be the first dedicated lab engineering positions on the team. Our mission is to validate robotic systems across multiple dimensions of performance and reliability as we scale from prototype to production. As we expand, there is a clear path to take on mentorship and leadership responsibilities. If you want to help build a lab organization from the ground up and leave your mark on the next generation of Amazon robotics, this is the team to join.
