Prime Video (PV) is seeking a Principal Technical Program Manager (TPM) to own Operational Excellence and Development Efficiency across the business. Reporting directly to the Director of READI, this is a strategic, single-threaded leadership role for a builder who thrives in ambiguity and can set direction where the problem itself is not yet defined.

As a Principal TPM, you will operate across VP organizations, exercising broad strategic influence over how Prime Video plans, measures, and improves the operational health of its services and the productivity of its engineers. You will own high-visibility operating mechanisms — most notably the Prime Video Quarterly Operations Review — and set the overall strategy, goals, and initiatives for Operational Excellence across PV. You will manage significantly complex, cross-functional initiatives, remediate endemic problems, and force-multiply your impact through the mechanisms and standards you create. This is a role for someone who is regularly escalated to, rather than one who escalates.

Key job responsibilities
Operational Excellence Strategy & Goals

Define and own the multi-year strategy, annual goals, and initiative portfolio for Operational Excellence across Prime Video, aligning teams and organizations toward a simple, coherent approach.

Establish the operational metrics, standards, and paved-road practices that define what “good” looks like for PV services — covering availability, resilience, incident management, and operational readiness.

Set and track org-level operational goals planning, translating leadership priorities into measurable outcomes and holding teams accountable to them.

Remediate critical and endemic operational problems by identifying systemic root causes and driving durable, cross-org fixes rather than point solutions.

High-Visibility Mechanisms (PV Quarterly Operations Review)

Own the Prime Video Quarterly Operations Review end-to-end — its agenda, data, narrative, and follow-through — as the authoritative forum where PV leadership inspects operational health and commits to improvements.

Design, run, and continuously improve the portfolio of operating mechanisms (weekly/monthly business and ops reviews, metrics dashboards, and governance cadences) that create predictable inspection and drive action.

Curate crisp, accurate, and timely written narratives and data for senior leaders (up to and including VPs and S-Team-facing readouts), ensuring decisions are well-informed and action items are tracked to closure.

Create the connective tissue between mechanisms so that signals surfaced in one forum reliably drive prioritization, resourcing, and roadmap decisions across PV.

Development Efficiency

Own the strategy for improving developer productivity and delivery velocity across PV — reducing friction in the software lifecycle from design through deployment and operations.

Define and instrument developer efficiency metrics (e.g., build and deployment health, cycle time, change failure rate, time-to-recover) and use them to target the highest-leverage investments.

Drive adoption of paved-road tooling, standards, and best practices that simplify how PV teams build and operate, eliminating undifferentiated heavy lifting and unnecessary process.

Partner with builder-tools and infrastructure teams to unblock innovation and increase the speed and safety of delivery at scale.

Cross-Org Influence & Force Multiplication

Operate across VP organizations with broad strategic influence, building consensus, securing commitments, and negotiating positive outcomes among senior engineering and product leaders.

Drive clarity in ambiguity — frame problems that are not yet defined, align stakeholders on the path forward, and deliver with complete independence.

Force-multiply through the mechanisms, standards, and structures you create, raising the operational bar across teams without being in the critical path of every decision.

Actively develop the TPM community at PV — mentoring senior TPMs, contributing to promotion assessments, and elevating program-management craft across the organization.

A day in the life
No two days look the same, but the through-line is mechanism ownership and strategic influence. You might begin the morning diving deep into operational metrics ahead of the Quarterly Operations Review — pressure-testing the data, sharpening the narrative, and pre-aligning VP-org leaders on the decisions that need to be made. Midday, you facilitate a working session with engineering directors to unblock a cross-org resilience initiative, making the trade-off calls between business opportunity, resources, and long-term sustainability.

In the afternoon, you shift to development efficiency — reviewing delivery-velocity trends, identifying the systemic bottlenecks slowing teams down, and shaping the paved-road investments that will remove them. Throughout, you are the person leaders are escalated to when operational health is at risk, and the owner who ensures every commitment coming out of a mechanism is tracked to closure. Your success is measured not by the work you personally execute, but by the durable systems, standards, and mechanisms you leave behind.

About the team
READI is a central function in Prime Video that drives strategy, tooling, and programs for Scale Readiness, Operational Excellence, Resilience & Observability, and Development Efficiency. READI’s value as a central team relies heavily on outward-facing influence: its strategy, decisions, and guidance are amplified across all of PV. Prime Video operates a global, high-scale streaming service, spending hundreds of millions in infrastructure and allocating hundreds of engineers to operational load each year — a surface area where disciplined operational rigor and improved development efficiency translate directly into customer experience, cost, and speed of innovation.

Today, ownership of PV-wide Operational Excellence strategy and its supporting mechanisms is distributed, creating diffusion of responsibility and inconsistent standards across teams. This role exists to close that gap: to be the single-threaded owner who defines what operational excellence means for PV, instruments it, runs the mechanisms that inspect it, and drives the initiatives that continuously raise the bar.
