Who we are looking for

A senior research leader to lead and grow the Systematic Fixed Income (FI) Research team in Bangalore, responsible for developing quantitative fixed income investment strategies, proprietary tools, and implementable solutions for our global FI franchise. The role combines people leadership, deep hands-on quantitative research credibility, working across multiple cross-functional teams, and focus on local research excellence within a globally integrated research and investment teams. The successful candidate will also drive the integration of AI tools and AI-strategist capabilities into the FI research process and serve as one of the local research anchors for SSIM's emerging India research partnerships.

The Bangalore Systematic Fixed Income Research team is a global center of excellence, delivering proprietary research, tools, and thematic thought leadership across the fixed income spectrum.

What you will be responsible for

  • Lead and grow the Systematic Fixed Income Research team in Bangalore — delivering integrated, high-quality, implementable research for the global FI franchise.

  • Contribute to and oversee the local execution of the global research agenda, partnering with the global senior research leadership and PM/CPM teams across the US, EMEA, and APAC.

  • Lead the integration of AI tools, agentic workflows, and AI-strategist capabilities into the FI research process to enhance productivity, insight generation, and speed of implementation.

  • Develop investment strategies and proprietary tools across active security selection, smart beta / risk premia (including ESG as factors), portfolio construction, and optimization — from idea generation through to production implementation.

  • Support the full lifecycle of model development and operation in Bangalore, including engagement with IT, Model Risk Management (MRM) and other governance bodies within SSIM.

  • Position SSIM's research and product capabilities to clients — representing the team in client meetings, prospect pitches, RFPs, consultant engagements, and industry conferences.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (PhD/MS/MBA/MA) in finance, economics, or a quantitative discipline (CS, Math, Statistics, Physics, Engineering) from a premier institute.

  • 7+ years of investment experience (research or portfolio management), with depth in one or more of active security selection, smart beta / risk premia research (including ESG factors), or portfolio construction and optimization. Research experience may be academic or industry.

  • Previous working experience with FI Portfolio Management or Trading (especially, involving long/short or hedge-fund strategies) is highly desirable.

  • Fixed income domain expertise is highly preferred, with solid grounding in market structure and implementable solutions.

  • Proven track record of leading research teams.

  • Strong client-facing presence — comfort representing research and products to institutional clients, consultants, and prospects.

  • Strong quantitative and programming skills — proficiency in statistical packages (R or Python) and intermediate-level SQL; experience with large datasets required. Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks and modern data platforms (Databricks, cloud) is a strong plus.

  • Familiarity with front-office tools such as Bloomberg, etc. is highly recommended.

  • Strong process, organizational, time, and project management skills, with a desire to develop creative and innovative solutions.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to influence global stakeholders and clients.
