Title and Summary

Senior Data Engineer

Overview:
Marketing Services Technology (MST) delivers the platforms, data products, and technology capabilities that power marketing measurement, customer insights, campaign optimization, and data-driven decision making across Mastercard.

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and operate scalable data platforms, pipelines, and services supporting Marketing Services products and analytics. This role partners closely with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Analytics, and Business stakeholders to deliver secure, reliable, high-quality data solutions that enable campaign measurement, reporting, customer insights, AI/ML, and marketing optimization.

The ideal candidate brings strong ownership, accountability, and a proactive problem-solving mindset; someone who takes initiative and drives issues to resolution independently rather than waiting for direction.

Role:

• Design, build, deploy, and maintain scalable batch, streaming, and real-time data pipelines supporting business-critical products and analytics workloads.
• Develop reusable frameworks and services for data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and delivery across multiple platforms and environments.
• Build and support enterprise data warehouse, data lake, and lakehouse solutions for large-scale processing and analytics.
• Lead initiatives focused on platform scalability, performance, reliability, resiliency, and operational efficiency.
• Implement and enhance data quality, observability, governance, security, lineage, and monitoring across data ecosystems.
• Partner with product, engineering, analytics, and business teams to translate requirements into measurable business outcomes.
• Support modernization and cloud migration initiatives, evolving legacy platforms to modern cloud-native architectures.
• Enable advanced analytics, reporting, AI/ML, experimentation, and customer insights through trusted data foundations.
• Adhere to engineering best practices, CI/CD automation, infrastructure-as-code, and operational excellence.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues and independently lead root-cause analysis to improve platform stability and reliability.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership, promoting innovation and knowledge sharing.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technology roadmaps shaping the future of MST's data platforms.

All About You:

• Strong hands-on experience with Hive, Spark/PySpark, Apache Kafka.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, Java, Scala, or SQL.
• Experience building scalable data platforms and distributed data processing solutions.
• Experience developing data pipelines supporting analytics, reporting, machine learning, and operational data products.
• Deep understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT design patterns, data architecture, and data lifecycle management.
• Knowledge of data governance, security, privacy, lineage, metadata management, and regulatory compliance.
• Experience implementing CI/CD, DevOps automation, infrastructure-as-code, and observability frameworks.
• Strong problem-solving skills for diagnosing and resolving complex challenges in distributed environments.
• Demonstrated ownership, accountability, initiative, and independent execution - a builder who drives problems to resolution.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across engineering, product, analytics, and business.

Preferred:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline; advanced degree a plus.
• AWS data engineering experience.
• Azure Data Engineering / DataOps exposure.
• Marketing analytics or marketing technology domain knowledge.
• Experience supporting large-scale modernization or cloud migration initiatives.
• Experience with data warehousing and cloud data engineering concepts and solutions.
