Position Description:
Designs, implements, and sustains highly complex cloud-based systems that support critical production environments. Develops and operates advanced automation and deployment pipelines to enable reliable, repeatable, and scalable software delivery. Engineers resilient, cloud-native and distributed system solutions to support modern application architectures. Troubleshoots and resolves complex system and application issues across infrastructure, networking, monitoring, and operational platforms. Delivers end-to-end operational support spanning infrastructure, cloud enablement, platform engineering, environment management, incident response, and deployment activities. Modernizes and optimizes systems to improve stability, performance, scalability, and availability. Implements industry best practices for DevOps, reliability, and service management to enhance operational efficiency. Supports workflow design, data analysis, and system specification efforts to inform architectural and technical decisions. Analyzes system behavior and operational data to identify, recommend, and implement enhancements aligned with evolving user and business needs. Develops and executes comprehensive testing, validation, programming, and documentation to ensure high-quality, production-ready solutions. Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by designing, implementing, and supporting complex or multiple systems and platforms and conducting studies of alternatives. Analyzes and recommends changes in project delivery policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to technical experts and management.
Primary Responsibilities:
Participates in system and enterprise architecture design teams.
Defines and implements system-level architecture across platforms and environments.
Designs, implements, and supports systems, components, and subsystems for the division.
Recommends system testing tools and methodologies and reviews and validates test plans.
Responsible for operational readiness and reliability of system deliverables.
Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple systems, platforms, or subsystems.
Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex system initiatives across multiple platforms.
Responsible for meeting project goals on-time and on-budget.
Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies for system initiatives.
Plans and coordinates complex project schedules and assignments for multiple initiatives.
Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various system and technology issues.
Provides technology solutions to daily operational issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives.
Advises senior management on system and infrastructure strategy.
Mentors junior team members.
Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives.
Develops original and creative technical solutions to ongoing system design, integration, and optimization efforts.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Information Assurance, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Systems Engineer (or closely related occupation) providing production and operational support for mission-critical client/server business applications and Cloud applications and infrastructure within a financial services environment.
Or, alternatively, Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Information Assurance, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Systems Engineer (or closely related occupation) providing production and operational support for mission-critical client/server business applications and Cloud applications and infrastructure within a financial services environment.
Skills and Knowledge:
Candidate must also possess:
Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) providing installation and upgrade support to development teams during migration of on-premise, in-house, and vendor-based applications to AWS Cloud platforms; performing down and up scaling, using AWS services -- Elastic Cloud Compute (EC2) and Auto Scaling Groups; and building performance data dashboards and application performance monitors, using Splunk and Datadog.
DE troubleshooting production incidents, using Web and desktop-based client applications hosted on-premise and on public Cloud platforms; scripting and executing stored procedures and functions in Oracle and Snowflake databases; performing deployment management using UDeploy and Jenkins; and performing deployment management integration using HashiCorp and Vault.
DE writing scripts to accomplish workflow automation, using Python and PowerShell; performing process automation using Ansible (AWX); and integrating data and process flows with on premise APIs for reporting and data management.
DE providing production support for Cloud applications and infrastructure using Datadog, Splunk or AWX, and uDeploy or Jenkins, within a financial services environment; identifying root causes for applications and infrastructure hosted on AWS by providing production support for incident management using log aggregating tools (Cloudwatch, DataDog, or Splunk); and promoting new features and functionalities by supporting the deployment of applications in production and non-production environments, using Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) tools (Jenkins and Udeploy).

Fidelity’s Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues.
